Backpackers District
by muratkorman
De Tham street and the surrounding area is called Backpackers District. You will see many tourists staying in this area. There are many guesthouses located here and at a low cost you can enjoy staying very close to city center. In this area, you can also find many travel agents which offer cheap daily packages to tourist attractions such as Mekong Delta or Cu Chi Tunnels. Many restaurants and souvenir shops are also available so everything you need is just in walking distance.
Any roadside cafe where one...

Any roadside cafe where one can sit and watch the local people and the amazing traffic. It is most important you sit on an intersection and watch the traffic pour into the roundabout . The site of no-one slowing down and no-one giving way is marvellous. The stately way all the women ride their bikes or motorcycles around town. They are beautiful, their backs ramrod straight and their clothes immaculate.
Tipping
by Audia
According to my best friend who is Vietnamese, the common rate for tipping is around Dong 5,000 to 10,000. But in my opinion, tipping depends on the location. As USD is widely accepted so a 1 Dollar bill for a tip seems quite ok.
1 USD is around Dong 15,000 to 16,000.
Dress for heat & humidity, etc
by BorneoGrrl
Backpacks are ideal if you want to travel around Vietnam but if you are here to shop, better you bring a bigger suitcase Going to a hot & humid place in the tropics calls for light & natural fabrics like Cotton or Silk. Tank tops, short sleeve shirts or T-shirts are fine. Shorts or light khakis are also good. You can buy most of your clothes at low prices so you needn't worry if you didn't pack enough
Try to avoid thick or synthetic material because you will sweat buckets & you will be very uncomfortable.
As for shoes, flip flops or open sandals are great because when it's hot, your feet will appreciate it and when it rains, you won't be walking around with wet shoes for too long Sunscreen is a must in South East Asia!! While you may enjoy the warmth of the sun, the intensity is much greater than say in the temperate countries. Don't let sunburn ruin your vacation
It helps if you bring your own medication e.g for diarrhea. Some people are not used to the food so best avoid getting sick on your holidays Also bring a small towel or lots of handkerchiefs because you will need to wipe all the sweat when you walk around
The People of the Cao Dai See Temple
by Aidy_p
There were quite a number of older folks within the congregation. But there were also the young ones that were raising their voices and music to their Gods. What caught my eye was this little boy that was barely 10 years of age but was already in their musical instrument team.
