Vien Dong Hotel is a good ballance bewteen cost and annenities. They remodeled last year and now have a cool contemporary look. Their location on Pham Ngu Lao street is awesome since it is right in the middle of shopping, food, nightlife. It is also close to a great city park and Ben Thanh market. We found the staff to be very helpful and eager to please. Skip the breakfast buffet and go to the streets for better food.
We stayed at Vien Dong Hotel on Pham Ngu Lao street. Its not too bad, has a very strong AC unit. Several places will make you insert the key holder into a slot to turn on the electricity. Take a wad of newspaper and stick it in there and you will have your room nice and cold when you return.

Very friendly staff starting with the bellboy/security guards to the front-office staff and the duty manager. Checked into a single standard room but was upgraded to their suite. Could it be that they've found out my identity as a travel agent?? Hmm... Apart from the restaurant that doubles up as a karaoke studio for corporate meetings, the Viendong exudes a quite modern elegance. I like!
Directions: Walking distance to central but best to catch a taxi or a motorbike ride.
The room was clean and confortable. Near by the backpackers area where inexpensive restaurants situated. Travel agencies are around this area where travallers have not worried of finding one. Good price with breakfast!

the staff is well trained, especially at the front desk, where there is no nonsense professional approach and gets things done. No dilly dallying, nor any effort at false friendships or insincere smiles Very close to the facilities for foreigners, especially around the corner from the street with internet, cafes and food palatable for foreigners. Best to avoid such places but they are all conveniently located in the street which is a kind of backpacker paradise.. If you are not a backpacker, you may wish to avoid this area. But the hotel is still a good value
Hi, I will be gg to HCM in 2 weeks' time and thinking of gg for a spa or massage. Can anyone recommend any good and cheap spa/massage center?

Not knowing if your male or female makes it tricky, but here's 2 options, the cheapest is: Regency Health & Leisure Club 206 Ba Thang Hai, D10 - the full works for about $15 and Chy Spa, 1 Ngo Van Nam, D1 which is about $25.
Then if you really want something special try L’Apothiquare Spa & Retreat, 64A Truong Dinh, D3, beautiful villa with garden, female friends I have sent there rave about it
