5 Star Hotel at the outskirt

CHECK-IN
I booked an Executive Room for 2 nights stay (23rd and 24th Dec).

Check-in was a refreshing experience. We were led to the 24th floor where we present our booking and they ask for the passports while we wait at the Executive Lounge (which has happy hour from 5:00pm to 7:00pm). While we help ourselves to the finger foods, drinks, wine available (complimentary), they process your check-in and brings the card keys to you.

Check-In for Deluxe rooms would be at the 4th floor main hotel lobby.

They asked whether we were there for shopping or sightseeing and even suggest places for you (with addresses) and explain the prices at various malls and market and indicate to you whether it is fixed prices malls or bargaining is required. Even warn you that in places where the prices are bargainable, you should slash asking prices.

They asked whether we would like to upgrade to next level of room for US$20 which we decline and was the right choice.

Its a good thing that we had booked the room for three guests coz if it weren't so, we would have felt very awkward with the thee of us sitting in the executive lounge on the 24th floor with the hotel guest reception officer bringing the passport / keys to you and us having helped ourselves to the finger foods.

Breakfast in the morning can be taken at the 25th floor (Executive) or 4th floor (common).

ROOM
The room was with a King Size Bed (as per booking) with the extra bed. Room was on 21st floor (non-smoking floor as requested).

Rooms was with broadband internet (via cable supplied). However, access to Facebook is not available (as with the rest of Ho Chi Minh city).

A basket of fruits is already in the room and the view of the city (from the room) was good.

Power outlets seems insuffficient though.

Toilet include long bath and, also, a separate standing shower compartment.

At times, the Aircon seems pretty cold. Even after adjusting to 30C, the rooms stills feel pretty cold.

BROADBAND INTERNET/WIFI
Broadband internet is available in the Executive Room (complimentary). Wifi is available on 24th floor and 25th floor - buffer breakfast/bar (complimentary). The cafe at the 4th floor has Wifi but at US$5/hour. No access from Facebook from Ho Chi Minh City.

BREAKFAST
Breakfast at 25th floor (top floor) was with good quality food and good service. Breakfast can be taken indoor or on open-air with city view.

Breakfast at 4th floor (at our own choice, the next day) was a larger area with more guests having breakfast there. I would prefer the 25th floor after experiencing the 4th floor cafe area breakfast.

ROOM SERVICE
Morning newspaper arrived at the door about 9:00-10:00am and is left outside the door on the floor.

Rooms rates includes 2 pieces of clothing for laundry and pressing service / day.

Room cleaning was good but not fantastic. A pair of socks was where I had left it.

SHUTTLE BUS
The hotel provide shuttle bus service at hourly interval from the hotel. First place of drop-off is near Ben Thanh Market and the second drop-off place is within very short walk to Tax Mall (shopping mall with supermarket - fixed price shopping mall).

The shuttle service would have been more perfect if it includes drop-off point near other tourist spots within the city center.

CHECK-OUT
Check out at the 24th floor Executive Lobby was a breeze. They asked whether we consume anything from the room's bar and off we go. Room was pre-paid. They don't seems to want the room card keys back but we handed it in anyway.

Unique Quality: SHOPPING
Ah Dong Shopping Plaza is within the Hotel/Building complex separated by separate entrances. There are 4 floors of shops selling almost everything including a supermarket. Prices are higher then other low price shopping center but you could get almost everything here. More of this under the shopping tip.

One of The Best Hotel in Saigon

Staying in Windsor Plaza Hotel Saigon was a quick decision after browsing through the internet online deal the whole night. But then it was the one who made my day in HCMC. I booked through the online hotel deal for an Executive Floor room, for about US$110 per room per night. The price was included round trip airport transfer, free 2 pieces laundry per day, free access to executive/business lounge, check in/out and breakfast in the lounge, and complimentary snacks and cocktail during happy hours.

During the arrival, the front office/receptionist wasn't really friendly and accomodating as I probably look too touristy or unbonafide comparing to those well suited business guests. But soon after she saw my reservation paper, everything was well taken care of. On the check out day, my airport transfer arrived late and every time I asked the staffs about it they just didn't believe that I stayed in the executive floor so they had to call the staff in the lounge to make sure that I really had stayed there. The way they talked and behaved, somehow, - a bit rude and unprofessional. Or maybe it is just their limitation of English. I have no idea...

But everything's ok finally, and I made it to the airport just in time.

Unique Quality: The hotel itself is located in the District 5 which is about 10 minutes driving to the centre/Dong Khoi st./District 1. But the free shuttle bus with fixed schedule makes it a no problem at all. The adjacent shopping centre, An Duong Plaza has even cheaper souvenirs comparing to Ben Thanh market. For a relaxing afternoon, Highlands Coffee cafe is just next to it. A small supermarket (Coop Mart) in An Duong Plaza can cater the needs of bottled water and midnight craving.

The facilities of the hotel are actually just the basic. Small swimming pool in the top floor, cafe and restaurant (alfresco style available), clean bedroom and bathroom, various choices of buffet breakfast and free shuttle bus to the centre.

Overall, I like staying there for its various spread of breakfast items, free shuttle bus, and quieter area (comparing to D1) of District 5.

5 Star Hotel but far from District 1!

Windsor Plaza in Ho Chi Minh City is one of the new deluxe hotels in Vietnam which offers the guests sheer luxury and pure comfort of a five star hotel (although is is far from district 1, the main area of activity in Saigon, but this is compensated by a free shuttle bus to dong khoi street in district one that is available every 15 minutes). Windsor Plaza is located in the Middle of Cholon (Chinatown) in District 5 and is near Binh Thay Market. The hotel has 405 rooms and each room has creature comforts like a mini-bar, mini refrigerator, ironing board, etc.

Unique Quality: the rooms are large and done in pastel colors and the mini bar is well stocked and they claimed that they have the largest disco in town.

Thieving untrustworthy staff!!!!!

This “5” star hotel falls short on almost every area you can imagine. For starters, location isn’t so great. District 5 is quite out of the way, but close to China town. Most of the staff seemed quite unprepared to deal with foreign customers and displayed poor hospitality and generally seemed unfriendly.

Unique problems I encountered

1. the massage facility in the hotel short changed me on my 90 minute massage. The lady only worked on me for 70 minutes and then demanded a tip. I refused to tip her and all hell broke lose. At the same time the staff extorted two tips from my girlfriend.

2. I left a tip for the cleaning staff, but I came back early one day and found that my room had not been cleaned and the tip had disappeared. Quite shameful. The hotel had to open two investigations in the 4 days I stayed there.

Good points, there is a free shuttle to and from the city center. They will also provide a free shuttle to the airport, which isn’t too shabby. There a slamming dance club on the 2nd floor when some great looking people. Its close to some out of the way temples and sights. The food isn’t bad, the cakes are especially good.

After all is said and done, I would say give this hotel a miss and try for accommodations that meet a higher standard.

Super Hotel

We are now staying in the Windsor Plaza Hotel in Ho Chi Minh. I reviewed the web over and over for weeks to find a suitable hotel. When we arrived at the airport the courtesy minibus was here to pick us up free of charge. We arrived at 5 pm just in time to use the free executive lounge on 24th floor, free nibbles , beer, wine, soft drinks and tea.

We have a room on 20th floor (room number 2001). We use the free courtesy bus to the centre an experience in itself to see all the sites. It goes every half hour (promptly). We got off at stop 2 today which drops you outside a travel agents 13 usd to chu ci tunnels and 18 usd to mekong delta (cheaper than the hotel). The breakfast is excellent good choice and to die for omlettes. Massive evening buffet in the hotel unlimited food and soft drinks 13 dollars.

There is some noise of horns from the scooters which pass in there 1,000s a KFC around the corner. I would advise the executive room for the few extra dollars.........we are quiet fuzzy excellent hotel do not hesitate to recommend it........bathroom freebies.......shampoo, shower gel, mouthwash, tootbrush, body lotion, cotton buds, shoe shine and comb. 2 free pieces of laundry per room per day.........i think i am in heaven

Some redeeming features but not great

this place is OK but not fantastic, not even close. Main problem was the noise: even on the 22nd floor, you had traffic, but that's understandable in a way. the constant mystery banging and dragging noises are not understandable at all.

the room was roomy and well-appointed, with a nice bathroom (both shower and tub!). beds were comfortable but we found one of those little lizards scurrying about. not a great confidence builder, that!

one nice feature was the TV: lots of channels from all over, in fact much more than you typically get in locations such as Hong Kong.

the location is reasonable thanks to their downtown and airport shuttle, plus there's a comprehensive supermarket next door.

Stay away from the restaurants across the street unless you're especially fond of Montezuma's Revenge.

Service was OK, sometimes friendly, but at the very least responsive.

The breakfast buffet people here rave about was filling but uninspired regardless of cuisine. In-house restaurants were all over priced...HK or Sing prices in Vietnam? Too early for that in the development cycle, my friends!

Not really recommended: better stay at the Rex or Sheraton next time...probably not a big price diff.

Mixed feelings? Not for me i think its worth every cent

Fantastic price i got at $125sgd ($83usd) all taxes inclusive at asiarooms -> I am not advertising for them

This price got me the executive room and I found that the decor of the hotel was of a 3.5star but the service is excellent. The staff here do their best to make your stay a memorable one. When i told them that me and my girlfriend was there for our 4 years anniversary they sent a bottle of wine up. Hey we're not even married yet!

Daily fruits and water not to mention the cocktail hour (but drinks and booze are really cheap in HCMC). Being able to have (limited)breakfast on the 24th floor was nice because the 4th floor restaurant was packed but the food variety was excellent.Free internet/computers(3) from 6am-10pm on exec flr.

Distance to the city is about 10-15mins depending on traffic. I have found the hotels taxi (Vinasun) to be the most dependable in HCMC. However the shuttlebus (which runs appx 30mins) do not stop you anywhere really convenient and I recommend against walking to the main attractions from the shuttle drop off points. Tip is to know where your hotel is and not only mention "Windsor Plaza" but also "An Dong Plaza/Shopping Ctr"(the shopping centre below the hotel) to avoid getting ripped off on your way back. Fares to Dongkhoi/Benthan (D1) from the hotel is about 1.50usd-2.50usd(even when jammed).

Another problem will be the noise from the streets despite staying pretty high up. As guests would come to learn, the city is full of horns blaring~

The view of the city is a welcoming one as the Windsor has to be one of the tallest buildings around...Once again its the staff which makes this place a 5 star. I recall once the bellboy gave a taxi driver a 15minute dressing down when we told him we were obviously scammed ($4usd ride back from dongkhoi!-it isnt the money its the principle)

Although the lifts can be slow at times (especially when their 7th floor plays host to weddings and events) they will eventually get to you.

This review isnt very well constructed but the bottom line is the hotel makes for a very good pad to stay in if your the sort who leaves the hotel for a long day but wants to come back for some comfort. If your the sort who wants to stay indoors and just laze around the complex pls give this a pass. For $80+usd a night for the executive floor i feel its worth it. 2pc free laundry/day and coming back to a made bed just by leaving your room for 30mins is a nice surprise. Enjoy your stay in HCMC because we enjoyed our 5 day stay,it reminds me of old Bangkok...

5 Star - They Are Kidding

Very Disappointed in Hotel.

CONS - I don't know how they rated this hotel 5 Star. Rooms are small and very basic (at best 3 star). For a supposedly a hotel that is only a few years old furniture is out of the 70's. Elevators slowest I have experienced. There are 4 and just when you think yours has arrived, the computer monkey switches elevators and you wait for another and this process can be repeated up to 3 times.
No late checkouts (unless you pay) and queen size bed is actually a double. Gym (ha) very small and limited equipment. Hotel caters mainly for taiwanese and chinese tourists (and there are heaps)

PROS - free half hourly shuttle bus to City centre (a bit far out)
Good breakfast. Great 4 level shopping centre underneath. Free shuttle to airport.

Wonderful Hotel

Stayed here for first three nights in Vietnam, great free airport pickup and shuttle bus makes up for out of city centre location, amazing buffett breaky, nice breakfast in executive lounge also.
Worth extra to stay in executive room for use of lounge, internet,drinks and nibbles also, nice to hop in pool after busy day, enjoyed rooftop bar,Large room, very quiet, will stay here again at end of trip for another two nights.

Basically , it is exxcellent Hotel, great staff, nice food,great buffet free shuttle service & breakfast, nice facilities. Yet, it is a bit noisy and you can not smoke in Executive lounge
i give it score of 8/10

half price of similar district 1 hotels. exec floor only $10 more than std floor. free shuttle van to district 1, or taxis 35-45,000 dong. what you save on room more than gives you enough to pay for taxis. i was there in january. if you have any kind of business card ask for corp sales agent, and set up free corp account. you will get good discount on rooms. they even gave us the best suite for three nts at room price. caveats: get high floor to avoid noise. breakfast buffet ends promptly at avertised hour. other countries if they say bfast 6-10am; means if you come in at 9:50 you still can get full service. here they didnt refill buffet after 9:30 and started to put away stuff before closing time. also staff inattentive to basic needs like quickly serving coffee or tea, and no refills volunteered. basically self-serve....when we stayed there, they opened a disco on the 3rd floor? it was open until 1-2 am, way past official midnight closings in town. we heard the boom-boom bass though the walls higher than 20th floor!!!!! had to move to other side of hotel. who wants to move at 2am??? hope this condition has been resolved. if not, where your room is will definitely impact your ability to sleep.
