Hotels in Hanoi

by namc

I'll be visiting Hanoi in December this year with a group of friends. Upon checking with my tour agent, I've been given a few hotel options. I've also read some reviews about these hotels but they seemed to be quite some time ago, cld anyone give me some latest updates of the conditions of these hotels :- Viet Anh Hotel, Nam Hai1, Sunny Hotel, Platinum Hotel, Sunny Hanoi Hotel. BTW, both the sunny hotels the same, if not, what are their add.

Hanoi Elegance 2 in Ma May St is v.good and is close to two excellent restaurants. I stayed there last November. All the Hanoi elegance ones are good.
You will find two hotels have the same name but not the same owners (as with Sunny)or the same standards.
Look at their website photos.

Travel Tips for Hanoi

Gravestones

by SirRichard

In Hang Bac street, in the Old Quarter, you will find many little shops where artisans carve handmade gravestones with images of the deceased in it.
I found it rather peculiar, as we only use to put names and dates in our gravestones in Spain.

SaPa Trekking

by SumTingWong

For some of the best hilltribe trekking in the world you must go up to SaPa. SaPa can be reached from hanoi by night train to Lao Cai and then an hour bus to Sapa, or by a more direct 12 hour or so bus. For some it may be a pain to get to SaPa, but it is completely worth it!!

Communist Propaganda

by Etoile2B about Hanoi Gallery

If you’re looking for original Communist propaganda posters check out the Hanoi Gallery. They have shops in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and the collection varies from store to store. Although, we saw a piece we liked in Hanoi and passed it up but after looking at the collection in Saigon they offered to deliver the piece we liked from Hanoi down to the Saigon store. Replicas are also available at inexpensive prices, but if you’re looking for hand painted originals expect to spend a little dough. Their collection was far better than any other “propaganda seller” we saw. Original Communist Propaganda posters as well as replicas. Originals start at about $300 US on up.

Trishaw - A fun ride around Old Quarters

by myspices

If you are tired to go about the "maze" in the Old Quarters, you can hire a trishaw to bring you around the Quarters. There are a lot of trishaws plying the streets of Hanoi and they will "call on" to you in the streets to ask if you need a ride.

Each trishaw takes a maximum of 2 adults. They are usually charged by the hour or by destination.

Try the apple pie and ice-cream, it's delicious!

by bcatton about Little Hanoi

I really liked the interior of this cafe/restaurant which is bamboo and wood. Also the lacquer paintings on the walls. It's quite a nice place to sit and eat.
Quite a wide range of light meals and also a range of salads, soups, filled baguettes and also quiches. Regarding the filled baguettes, you can eat in or take these away and best of all you can actually phone the restaurant and they will deliver the baguette to your hotel free of charge! Different range of quiches and baguettes both priced at 48,000 VND.
Service was really good, on occasion i would go there to get something to take away and always be invited in to sit and relax while my order was made up. The hot apple pie and ice cream is especially good. I also liked the smoked beef baguette with lettuce, tomato, cucumber.
