Street sellers - almost anything
Street sellers everywhere..... they carry their goods on bicycles or simply shoulder a pole with one basket at each end of the pole. Some will carry their goods on a basket and place it on top of their heads.

What are the times that the guards are changed at the mausoleum and is there a good spot to view that ceremony?
Not sure regarding the times the guard changes, as for a good spot to see it, errr right out front??
We were there last week. HCM's body was in Russia being re-embalmed as apparently happens every October/November. The guard changes every hour on the hour and it is possible to stand – behind the yellow line – right in front, about 10 to 20 metres away from where the guards are.

Thachthat district, Hatay province still keeps some unchanged things in her heart. Green bamboos and village's comunal house are some of those. Twas nice to see a pure agriculture village hiding herself in the shadow of bamboo as it was long time ago, has not affected much by the urbanlization waves from big city.
This is a non-profit shop that sells traditional Vietnamese & ethnic minority crafts. You can be sure of both quality and that you are supporting the artisans themselves, not some middleman. Bill Clinton has even visited! [see their website for proof!] Hand woven items including silk scarves. Wood and lacquer crafts as well as small woodblock prints. The picture is an example of one of those by T-san. It depicts Chinese-style tombs. Very reasonable. The scarves I bought were between $4-6 US. This little woodblock print was about $3. US
Updated: Just realised I had to update this tip, which was written some years ago. After my last trip to Hanoi in Dec 2006, I must say that NOOO... you don't have to go searching for cyclos anymore... they're EVERYWHERE! And it can get very annoying when they cycle along with you as you're walking along the roads... every street corner there'll be at least one or two and they'll even holler at you from across the street "Woo-oo, woo-oo!" "Hello hello? Hello miss!!! Missss??!!! Cyclo ride??? One hour???" *sigh*
Original tip: Like the "beca" or trishaw in Penang, and the tuk tuk in Thailand, these cyclos are a must ride in Hanoi! They're not available in all street corners though, you do have to walk around a bit and come upon some of them by chance... they're not more expensive than the motorcycle taxis so try one sometime!
The Melia Hanoi hotel have a few of their own cyclos too, but these guys I found outside the Sofitel Metropole Hotel
15 Ngo Quyen Street, Hanoi.. which is also where the Malaysia Airlines office is.
Large variety of street food, cooked in front of you in stalls set up around a nice, picturesque courtyard. Everything from pho, fried rice, grilled seafood to snails, springrolls and desserts can be found.
Prices are cheap, ranging from about 15,000 dong for a bowl of pho, to ~50,000 for a plate of grilled squid. Waiters take your order at the table, but it's interesting to walk around the courtyard to take a look at what the place has to offer, how it looks like, etc.
Food is generally good, and the waiter was helpful enough to instruct us on how to wrap our springrolls with with our prawn-paste-on-sugercane dish. Bunh Cuon with shrimp stuffing
Assorted local desserts served in a tall glass - colourful and tasty!
