Due to extreme climatic changes the World is experiencing at the moment, trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local, on the day variations.

I was there in late Feb a few years back and I was fine in a pair of jeans. I didn't bring a jacket with me on the trip. It was chilly in Sapa but that is further north in the mountains. I don't remember Hanoi being that cold. It was, of course, cooler than HCMC and the Mekong but it wasn't bad. Perhaps you'd need a light jacket at night.

You can always count on ricky giving you the weather forecast for any given city on any given month!

Agree with Etoile, I was there in late Feb.2009 and it wasn't cold at all. If anything it was starting to get humid/muggy. It would drizzle in the mornings and sometimes at night but other than that, Hanoi was wonderful.

Depends on where you come from! To a Vietnamese/Thai, winter in Hanoi/Sapa is considered cold. To a N. European/American, these destinations would be considered mild to cool. I always carry a nylon shell w/hood and that's all I've ever needed.

Travel Tips for Hanoi

The red bridge

by SirRichard

This small bridge in the middle of the Hoan Kiem Lake joins the banks of the lake to the central island where you can find the Ngoc Son Temple.
It has a certain "japanese" flavour, and gives some excellent photograph opportunities, with that brigh red colour reflecting over the quiet waters of the lake...

Amazing Scenery and Caves

by munapong

Travel to Ha Long Bay to experience the beautiful scenery and caves. I travelled to Ha Long City from Hanoi. Ha Long Bay trip is good especially you board a chinese junk. The sea breeze is cold, so bring something warm eg jacket.

My guesthouse Manh Dung helped arrange the tour - do contact them for assistance.

That Piece of Art to Adorn Your Wall

by currychook about Opera Gallery

Large professional looking gallery with substantial collection by various artists. Just go in and admire the wonderful pieces. It's located on a street that houses a few galleries, so take some time to wander around. I especially like the picture of three Vietnamese girls in traditional Ao Dais. Can somebody buy me one please!

Seventeen Saloon

by hientonkin about Seventeen Saloon

Start from a swinging doors at the entrance to the fake bull'shead in front of toilet, Seventeen Saloon is 1/2 atre-restaurant, 1/2 nightclub. The locals cant get eoung of the cowboy look - the waitresses are dressed like scantily-clad cowgirls. Music everynight of the week and the bands are very good, usually concentrating on '70s hits. Beers cost 35.000 VND.
The twin one in Saigon has similar reputation.

Cyclo Trips

by Ewingjr98

We took one cyclo trip while in Vietnam -- from the Old Quarter to Apocalypse Now late one evening. It cost about $2, but it took almost 30 minutes with our drivers pedaling like mad. We had two cyclos and we talked the drivers into racing... it was entertaining, but don't expect this to be your primary means of transportation.
