Excellent stay in the Old Quarter

We stayed here and loved it. Our room was large with a comfy bed, desk and chair, armoire, fridge, and tv. The bathroom was a bit small but tidy. Breakfast was included which was great, I always opted for the Pho Bo but they also have other choices including bread with butter and jam, juice, coffee, etc. At $15 USD per night for the room, it doesn't get much better than that. Add the fact that the two girls running the place, Linh and Hang, are very sweet and speak good English. They go out of their way everyday to make sure all of the guests are happy and satisfied. We booked a tour to Ha Long Bay with them and left Hanoi the night we came back. We arrived back to Hanoi from Ha Long Bay about 4pm and our train departed at 11pm. The girls allowed us to use a room to shower and freshen up and leave our bags there until we were ready to go to the train station. The entire staff is incredibly helpful but only the two girls speak English. Great location in Hanoi's Old Quarter that I recommend.

small rooms, but pretty good service

Location: Its OK. The street is pretty quite compared to others in the Old Quarter.

Room: Very small. Blanket is dirty and smelly. There was a cockroach in the room. Air-conditioner is not cold. There is nowhere to hang clothes. (Photos posted by the hostel itself cannot be trusted).

Bathroom: Very small. There is nowhere to hang clothes. The whole bathroom will get wet and water will definitely splash into the room.

Breakfast: Either pho (Vietnamese noodles) or bread with jam and butter AND a choice of drinks (water, tea/coffee, can drinks). You have to eat your breakfast in the reception area.

Service: Good. Mrs Moon (who is usually based in Golden Sun hotel that she also owns) is genuinely friendly and helpful. She will even help you sort out tours with other agencies (if you request her to do so). Mr Ha (who manages Hanoi Guesthouse) is friendly and helpful, but not genuinely so.

Tour: They use APT Travel, located diagonally from the hotel. Tour prices are competitive, and is the same whether you book with the hotel or with the agency itself.

Best Bargain In Old Quarter

A very friendly hotel located on the west boundry of the old quarters along Bat Su Street. Very good price with all you need in a hotel, comes with hot water, air con and a small TV with TV in. They can also make bus, train and flight reservation or daily trips out to nearly attractions. Look for Mrs. Moon.

Unique Quality: Make your reservation on the net as you may enjoy another 5% discount with free airport transfer. The room cost USD4.50 a night per person. Each room is good for 2 person and cost USD9.00 a night comes with complimentary breakfast (pho bo included)

Try the Pho Bo in front of the hotel at night, the soup is much better.

Hanoi Guesthouse

Very nice, clean place in Bat Su. Have been there myself and referred a few people there and everyone is has had positve experiences. Just like all the other hotels than can arrange everything for you. However, make sure u negiotate cause u can save a few bucks on that. The best room is a 10 usd room with a balcony, cable tv, ref and a couch. So u can chill out while listening to the bustling street sounds.

Unique Quality: In the middle of old quarter. Clean and very good price

More about Hanoi Guesthouse

Budget guesthouse! - Hanoi

by funky_pigeon about Tam Thu'o'ng Guesthouse

We had a good stay at this guesthouse. Down stairs they can organise travel tours to halong bay, which aren't bad at all. The guys are really helpful and as we had a hospital scare that was a relief. They stay up to make sure everyone gets back oK and the rooms are clean although only at basic standard.

The guesthouse is situated in a handy location to see most of the old quarter town

Friendly Guesthouse!

by TripAdvisor Member *happystarfish*

We really enjoyed our stay at Hanoi Guesthouse. The rooms are simple, clean and comfortable with t.v, fridge, air con and hot water and breakfast was included in the price and free internet. It is in a good location in the old quarter within walking distance to lake and most of the sights.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful and Mrs Moon was great at helping us with our travel plans sorting out train tickets and other trips we wanted to do. They let us leave our big bags at the guesthouse while we were away for a few days at a time on trips and gave us use of a room for a couple of hours to shower and change when we got back in the morning after an over nite train journey and were catching another train later that day. Would definatley stay again if in Hanoi.

Value for money, with prompt service

by TripAdvisor Member Escapadee

During my stay in Hanoi Guesthouse, what really impressed me was the value-for-money deal and the prompt service provided. For 11USD per night, the clean room, TV with cable channels, the breakfast and the free internet service at the lobby were more than what I'd expected. The room is no-frill, with basic amenities which suffice if you are not planning to stay in the room the whole day.

The staff was polite and provided good, practical advice on transportation. They also made it a point to remember the guests. I did face the problem of overbooked rooms when I came back from Halong Bay. Nevertheless, Ms Thin was prompt in solving the problem and booked me another room in its partner hotel, Golden Sun Hotel, at comparable rates. Over at Golden Sun hotel (a better hotel with balcony and more centralised location), the service was equally impressive.

Overall, I would say my short stay at Hanoi Guesthouse has been good, though not particularly memorable. It's a good place for travellers who are looking for affordable accomodation in the heart of the old quarters. However, if you plan to spend a substantial amount of time in the room, the room (with small windows and little view) can get you down.
