Was in the Horison Hotel for a business meeting in mid May 2007. The meeting facilities while not great is definitely very friendly. The staff were quite attentive (at the meeting room) and banquet food was a feast with Vietnamese spring rolls, small little tarts, pizzas and great coffee. The room was like any other 4-5star hotel room, with TV, attached bath with shower and tub. Coffee/Tea making facilities with overpriced minibar (but that ain't a problem, just buy your own beer and put in the minibar). Equiped with a mini safe where you put your passport for peace of mind. However, since Hanoi is a little climatic and claims to have 4 seasons a year, the airconditioning comes with heater and cooling finctions. For some reasons, the airconditioner wasn't working well. I had to set it to coldest tempreture at the highest fan speed and still slept without clothes on, in order to sleep. Overall, a good experience, but location off town center quite a bit. Surrounded by hardware shops and some sports shop in the back which is where the stadium is. Within 5min walking distance is a small supermarket where you can stock up on your beer and booze. Left out on the street because our reserved hotel was closed, we proceeded to look for a room for the night in the Old Quarter for an hour without any luck. Finally, we decided to try the Melia, but the reception informed us that the hotel was fully booked. However, the reception at Melia went out of their way to call the Horison and get us a room there. At 3am, tired and beat from a 4 hour flight delay and walking the city streets for an hour with our luggage in tow, we pulled into the driveway of the Horison. The Horison is a great place to stay, albeit far more expensive than we had originally planned to spend for a hotel room in Hanoi. They even gave us an upgraded room and a 3pm checkout. The room is what you would expect of a 4 star business hotel. Robes, slippers, welcome fruit basket, in-room safe, etc. The breakfast buffet was complete with an omelet bar and a good selection of desserts. The staff is very helpful and responsive.
