I spent two nights here before heading south to Hue. It was ok. Typical of the budget hotels in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. I was very tired when I arrived and the owner tried to short change me after I had paid for my room. I didn't really understand the currency yet. I'm not sure if he tried to take advantage of that or not. Anyway I spotted it. They sold me a tour to Halong Bay which I was very happy with.

I'm going to be in Hanoi for 3-4 days.
Can anybody recommend good hostels or guest houses?
I'm looking for a place in an ideal location that has a good social atmosphere where I can meet other backpackers. I'm a budget traveler, but very flexible.

i stayed at Thu Giang near the old centre, cheap, friendly people and offcourse a lot of backpackers. just check my site for the info.

I think Van Xuan 2 hotel is a good place to stay at . I liked the hotel and Im gonna come back to Ha Noi again on the feb 23 I guess i will just stay there for a couples of night . It would be cool if you wanna meet up . Anyway the hotel's address is 46 Luong Ngoc Quyen street ( that's in the old quarter . Luong Ngoc Quyen is the backpacker street)
what ever you do, do not stay at the Hanoi Queen hotel! they are cheating soo many people and treat you really badly. promise you something and then it is NOT the same when you check out. please warn others about this place!!!
