Great View of the Opera House

Try to stay on the executive floor if you decide to camp at Hilton Hanoi. You'll get a stunning view of the Opera House . We opted for the 6th floor since it's a non-smoking room and it won't stink as much.

Tip: Try to book online , you'll get a huge discount and reasonable rates.

Unique Quality: Note: Folks say that the opera house was built to look like Opera garnier in France. But frankly, I don't see the resemblance.

Free upgrade to Executive Room

Well, this is the Hilton, so I think it needs no introduction. We stayed here since hubby's hilton card got us a free upgrade to the executive floor. Over there, you'll get free drinks round the clock + usage of internet. Quite a cool deal.
Umm, maybe not so cool. This only encouraged hubby to check on his emails and work around the clock. So much for a holiday!

Cost
USD99 for an exec room + internet + drinks round the clock + breakfast. Book online for better discounts.

Unique Quality: Why I like this place:
1)Stunning view of the Opera House
2)Close to Ho An Kiem Lake
3)Excellent eatery down the road -the Emperor.
4)Staff gave us a good intro to Vietnamese artists + where to buy gd pieces.
5)You can clock star alliance miles over here

Fantastic view of the Opera House

All the first-class comforts and amenities that you would expect from a Hilton. Large rooms and helpful, well-trained staff. Within short walking distance to the sites in the old city. Several touts linger around the perimieter of the hotel, but they aren't too aggressive.

Unique Quality: Definitely get a room with a view of the majestic Hanoi Opera.

First-rate Service and Luxury

Our stay at the Hilton Hanoi Opera is one of the best hotel experiences for me. And this is because of only two things - the bed and the service. I am quite meticulous about these two things when we travel and the Hilton did these well.

The really comfy, high thread-count sheets and marshmallowy pillows assured me of a sound sleep. But what mattered most was the courteous and hospitable staff they have, from the front desk officers to the chauffeur.

Pluses are the old world ambience that goes with the French quarter setting of Hanoi's streets and the good food that they offer. We even got the best foreign exchange rate here.

For honeymooners and luxury travellers, this is definitely worth the extra bucks.

Hanoi's best hotel

I have stayed at the Hilton Hanoi Opera hotel on several occasions.
Why the Hilton?
It's in the center of the city. It's as modern, comfortable and safe as the best hotels in Manhattan.
It's right next to the Opera house and less than 5 minutes by air-conditioned taxi from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic cathedral and the numerous art galleries.
The breakfasts are the best anywhere. If you are used to a huge American breakfast with several types of cereal, fruit (try the Da Lat strawberries), juice (ex. guava or mango) followed by bacon, ham and eggs, pancakes, several types of cheese, croissants, rolls and delicious coffee, this is the place to eat! And that's before you even start in on the delicious Vietnamese breakfast selection!
Wait until you see the health club and the large heated outdoor pool at the Hilton. Ahhhhh !
The Business Center is well equipped and has numerous computer terminals in private cubicles and the young women attending them are very helpful, patient and polite.
The hotel staff are extremely efficient and courteous. And they all speak English!!!
The in-house travel agency on the ground floor is a God-send, especially if you need to book anything on short notice like an in-country flight to Da Nang, Pleiku, Ho Chi Minh City, or want to take a tour to Ha Long Bay near Haiphong.
This a very well-run hotel and it shows. A large part of the credit should go to its General Manager, Jerome Auvity, a real hotelier! I highly recommend it.

Unique Quality: The rooms in the Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel are beautiful, very comfortable and soundproof. The air-conditioning is flawless. The room safes, phone system and color TV's are easy to operate. The bathrooms have plenty of hot water and are all deluxe with large bath tubs and walk-in, glass-enclosed showers with shining grey granit walls. There is even a wall phone next to the toilet. Room service is excellent with a large menu selection. The bowls of fresh complimentary New Zealand apples in the hallways are a nice extra touch. Same day laundry and dry cleaning service is outstanding.

Luxury Hotel Downtown

Location
The Hilton Hanoi Opera is right next to the Hanoi Opera House and is in the middle of downtown.

Service
Very down to earth and personalized. All staffs are well trained with good knowledge of the English language making communication easier.

Facilities / Amenities
Room has TV / Cable, Coffee / Tea machine, telephone, internet connection (high speed), in room deposit box, full minibar, daily turndowns, etc.

The hotel has a small swimming pool outdoor, two restaurants, one sports bar, and a lobby lounge.

This hotel is most suitable for business travellers

Unique Quality: I stayed in the Deluxe Room which faced towards the Hanoi Opera House. The view from my rooms was spectacular at night when the Opera House had all lights turned on.

I did not have the opportunity to use the pool at it was between 12 - 16 degrees during February.

The hotel is walking distance to several good restaurants like the Press Club,

I spent a lot of my evenings in the Lobby Lounge of the hotel and befriended many of the local musicians that played there. They would alternate between a jazz and latin band that seranades you throughout the night until closing time.

Hanoi Hilton

Date of stay: July 2004 - around 11 days.

Quite well located - walking distance to the centre.

Room service food is absolutely fantastic, although a bit more expensive than food in town.

Rooms are spacey and have everything you might need.

Very calm and pleasant atmosphere in the hotel.

I will stay here again on my next trip to Hanoi.

5 star rating, but mediocre service

The hotel is quite lovely to look at - although the decor in the room could use some toning down. The rooms in the normal section have a red/green motif that is a bit strong. On the executive floors it seems to be a bit more sedate.

Overall, the hotel is nice from a physical standpoint. However the service is mediocre and not what I would expect from a 5 star hotel. For one of my stays, I was unable to use the shower - which is, frankly, a primary motivator to stay at such an expensive hotel.

Management's response to my comments were not very satisfying. I'd recommend this place if you can get a good rate - I found one quote for $60 US. But at the normal rates ($100), I'd recommend the Sofitel, Sheraton or another one of Hanoi's luxury properties.

Unique Quality: Nice view of the Opera house. Good location. Impressive lobby.

Vietnam Hotels

by sarahreynold about Hotels in Vietnam and Resorts

The Rex Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam is still called by many the Rex Saigon hotel, good comfort, very good service, another Ho Chi Minh City hotel worth thinking about is the Renaissance Hotel and also the Prince Hotel. In Hanoi the Sunway Hotel is very good value for money if you are looking for an economical hotel in Hanoi, the Sunway hotel is value for money in Hanoi. The Hilton Hotel in Hanoi is called the Hanoi Hilton Opera Hotel and is classic in style with good service, this is a good choice of hotel in Hanoi. Vietnam does not have a large number of hotels but there are many famous hotels in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City ( saigon ). In Da Nang or Danang as it is often spelled there is also a small but good choice of hotels. The Furama Beach resort and the Ana Mandara resorts in Nha Trang are also very good accommodation. Hua is also a popular destination in Vietnam. Hotels in Vietnam offer very friendly service and everyone tries their best to help and make a good impression, you really feel a valued guest.
