Yeah, I'll be looking for a hotel too. So any recommendations for around USD 10 per night for two people would be great. Thanks for the help. Best if you could give out some names and I'll check them out when I get there.

I was looking for exactly the same as you and was recommended Win hotel. I've checked it out and all reviews have been excellent.

Win hotel at Bao Khanh st is good. But higher than the price 10$ for sure.
If you are finding at the rate 10 - 15$, try A-Z Queen cafe or Bamboo hotel at 95 Hang Bac st.
There are hundred of hotels with that price in the Old quater. no worry! youth hotel Luong Van Can st is ok.
Cheers,
Hien

When u get to Hanoi you'll find many affordable places in your price range. U can have a look at www.backpackershostels.com.vn They say they satrt at $20 but this is a mistake, they start at $10! and they are VERY nice rooms.

For the others in this section, u could check out www.backpackers.com It has many affordable and pricey haotels and guesthouses on it with ratings and comments from people who have stayed there. You might find something there!

Actually, www.hostelworld.com is the one with the ratings on it! Sorry!

Any advice re. trip to North Vietnam welcome!

by travellingrose

I have lots of questions! Finally realsing ambition to visit Vietnam - though sadly only for a fortnight next Easter.
1. Would anyone recommend the Hoa Linh Hotel in Hanoi- or any other in or near old town, which is traditional?
2. Has anyone prebooked accomodation/ transfers through www.hotels-in-vietnam- again would you recommend them?
3. Any recommendations of tour agents/travellers cafes offering tours to CatBa island and Halong- or tipe on what I should look for in a tour?
4. Any accomodation recommedations in Hue?
5. If you only had time to visit one national Park, would you choose Ba-Be? Cuc Phuong? or Bach Ma?
6. What sort of weather can I expect in March / April (which might affect choice of national park) Again any recommendations re. tours to these parks gratefully received.
7. If I stick to itinerary outlined - do you think I need bother with malarial precautions

Well that's it! Any help with any of the above would be really welcome.
Cheers

Rose

We stayed at the Lucky Hotel in Hanoi in the Old Quarter which was very nice, a bit pricey but great place.

We booked our tour to Halong thru the hotel. They used Kangaroo Cafe and the trip was cool. They are all about the same price so whichever turns you on.

In Hue we stayed at Binh Minh Two, good position close to river and restaurant, especially Omar Khayyams Indian, ultra yummy.

The weather in Vietnam changes from top to bottom. When it is worm in north, colder in south and vice versa. We didn't worry about malarials but took a quality insect repellant. I always use Bushmans, available in Aust, SA and on the net. I have never been bitten while using it.

Vietnam is a great destination. Enjoy yourselves.

Hello,

For Hue, i recommend Thai Binh 2. Sinh cafe dropped me there., price from US 15 - 25 per night. A short walk to Truong Tien bridge, Garden paradise restaurant. The room is super clean.
