Hi

every where in the city, lots of change houses, and at the hotels,
but sometimes they give a lesser rate.

Right in City Center Saigon, in the vicinity of Le Loi and Nguyen Hue Streets you can walk in any direction and view shops with signs that state 'Money Exchange,' usually in a gold shop but some are setup solely as money exchange. They will give you the best exchange rate. Banks are your next choice but the rates are not usually as good. Try not to use dollars or Euros in hotels or for shopping. They will give you much lower rates of exchange. Bring good condition bills. Dirt, writing or tears on a bill may be refused.

Travel Tips for Hanoi

Don't come during APEC convention

by KhanhLy

A friend just recently returned from Hanoi. Couldn't get a hotel within 10 miles of Old Quarters because of the APEC convention. He said air quality and traffic were horrible. Had to start wearing one of those face mask. Once he left the city on the back of a moped, he was in Vietnam heaven.

It's cold out here

by dfactor

Never thought it's so cold in Hanoi (I only had a sweater in my suitcase, was lucky to get a jacket from my sister's Queen B luggage). We were in our jackets during the night (about 15 - 20 celcius). Hailing from KL and Singapore, we were just not made for climate like this. When we were in Sapa Valley, it was almost freezing cold for us, gloves definitely comes in handy. And of course, winter wear and jackets too.

Hanoi : Around Ho An Kiem Lake

by bpacker

Not too far away from the lake is a public square where there are statues of revolutionary figures. Children play freely in that area.

The young play carefree admist propaganda images and messages.

Hide and Seek

by King_Golo about Hang Hanh street /Hang Da street

Real nightlife is hard to find in Hanoi. There are some discotheques which are alright. Then, there's Hang Hanh street, a narrow street at the upper left corner of Ho Hoan Kiem. You'll find many places that are ideal for tourists to enjoy a drink - such as G.C., Polite Pub and so on. They are all ok, and I won't try to recommend a specific one as everyone expects something different from a good bar. Another good place to hang out is Hanoi's Irish Pub in Hang Da street (I believe it's Hang Da - at least it's just around the corner). It looks like an Irish Pub is supposed to look and you get a good selection fo drinks, good music and a little bit of Irishness...
What's strange about most of Hanoi's bars is the way they change at 11pm. Curfew starts at 11pm and all bars that want to stay open for a longer time have to camouflage themselves. This usually means, that they close the curtains at the door, sometimes also that the lights are turned down while everything else stays the same. But for the police that occasionally come to force the bars to close, it's now a game of hide-and-seek... Casual

Airport Taxis

by imstress

The airport taxi charges a flat fee of 12,000 VND.

If possible, get the hotel reception to Dial 8733333 for you and give them your pick up time and venue.

Hotel do provide a transfer service which charges you a USD10 flat fee to the airport.

Another cheaper alternative is to take the Vietnam Airline Minibus for USD2 per person.
