GO NORTH
by galy
Hanoi is the place to start your trip to the north. The easiest way to do so is take the night train to LaoCai, and from there to go by car to SAPA, BacHa, or both. You can spend tim in Sapa, track around the area, visit some of the colorfull minority vilages, take part in the sunday market in BacHa. 3 days is the minimum, but you can spend there much more See my TaVan page

BAT TRANG POTTERY VILLAGE
by balhannah
A tour to the Bat Trang Pottery Village was included in My CITY TOUR.
This village is located in the countryside and is a famous trade village, with over 6,000 people in 1,500 families living and working here. Most men in Bat Trang follow the traditional work.
Here, we were taken to a workshop where we saw the potters working, and the whole process through to it being handpainted and fired, and of course, the finished product on the shelves for us to buy.
A rather heavy souvenir, and there are some extremely big, beautiful pieces.
After looking at the workshop, I went for a wander around the village, looking at other Pottery for sale.
The men on their push bikes, laden with heavy pots was an interesting sight to see.
The also was an Ox for the tourists to take a ride on, I didn't do it, an extra charge for this.
Bat Trang also holds a annual village festival.
Location: Bat Trang Pottery Village is located in the south east of Hanoi, passing Chuong Duong Bridge turns right and go about 10km along the dyke of Red River.
Bat Trang belongs to Bat Trang Commune, Gia Lam District, Hanoi, Vietnam.
I did it on tour, but you could get a Taxi to bring you here.
Late nite dancing and clubs
by DSwede about Lighthouse
It sometimes plays R&B, but varies depending on the DJ. The Lighthouse Dancing Club used to be the Barracuda Bar.
Its no longer under under Australian management, but it is one of the few places that the police/neighborhood does not enforce the curfew. Therefore ic can be open very, very late, sometimes all night depending on the crowd.
Don't let the shady neighborhood deter you. I went and had a good time. At the time of day that this place is open, the alleys will be full of ex-pats and people so you will be perfectly safe.
" We have no idea how they manage to get around the local laws, but it may have something to do with the dastardly location -- in the red-light district, on an alley off and alley off Phuc Tan Street across a highway that is nearly impossible to cross on foot, to the east of the Old Quarter. Luckily, most locals know where it is by either its present or former name and definitely hire a taxi to get there -- you'll be rewarded with reasonably priced drinks and room to strut your stuff to the tune of thumping hip hop and R&B."
Hours: 10:00 'til very, very late. There is no enforced dress code.
