More about Rising Dragon Hotel
Rising Dragon Hotel is a great find!
We were very pleased with our stay at the Rising Dragon. A travel agency at the Hanoi airport booked us there at $50 (+$5 agency fee) for one night, promising us a 3-star room in a 2-star hotel. Our room was at least a 3-star! Room 202 was a very clean, huge room with king bed, a twin bed, a large bath, and plenty of closet space, as well as a balcony overlooking the street activity of the Old Quarter/Hoan Kiem district. Street noise wasn't a problem at night, although we were awakened at 6 am, when the public broadcasting of music and exhortation from the street awoke us.
Upon our 5 a.m. return to the hotel after a 3-night jaunt to Sa Pa, the hotel staff offered us the use of a temporary room to freshen up, and then booked us for later that day in Room 502. This room was just as comfortable as 202 inside, but be aware it is 5 flights up, with no balcony and the street view is blocked by a roof top and window bars. (I also forgot to ask where the fire exit was, which made me nervous.) However, it was just $35 a night, so it was priced appropriately.
Breakfasts were very good and were included. There is free internet service. The hotel is in walking distance to Hoan Kiem lake and many good restaurants. (It is almost directly across the street from the Green Tangerine (outstanding, expensive) restaurant.
We were very happy with the tour services offered by the hotel manager, Mr. Hieu Vu. When our tour to Halong Bay was canceled due to a typhoon, he quickly refunded our money and offered a variety of other options. His English is very good, and his wife is American, so we were able to communicate very well. We strongly recommend asking the hotel for pick up and drop off at the airport. Then the cost is $10 and you don't spend precious time being escorted the long way around Hanoi by one of Hanoi's taxi drivers.
Clean and friendly
We booked 2 rooms on the 14th & 15th of Oct. 2007 thro internet direct with Mr. Hieu Vu, the manager of Rising Dragon Hotel. We were not asked for any deposit for the booking but he assurred us the rooms still reserved for us.
On the arrival at Noi Bai Airport, Mr. Hieu Vu sent his 2 cars to pick 5 of us at 10:30pm, which was a free transfer. We arrived the hotel at 11:30pm,and surprise to see such a modern & new renovated hotel counter with bright lighting in the darkness of the old street of Old Quarter of Hanoi. The first impression was good, Mr. Hieu Vu & staffs greet us with smiling faces and after check-in, three staffs help us to bring the luggages to 3rd & 4th floor. The room was great, very big, new and clean. We had a good sleep, except the horn sound of motorbike outside the street woke us earlier in the morning. It was good to me, I quickly went to the old street to enjoy taking pictures of the Hanoi street lifes.
The complimentary breakfast was simple with beef noodle, french bread & American breakfast but delicious to eat. We like it! My son like most is the internet free service which is located next to the dinning tables.
At 8:00am we made our day trip to Halong Bay. It was pre-arrange by the hotel at very resonable price.
Overall, we were satisfied with the hotel service. The hospitality & cleanliness are the most credit i should give. I strongly recommend my freinds this hotel for Hanoi.

Fantastic hotel, great location, wonderful staff
I booked this new Hotel on spec after reading some bad reviews about a hotel my travel agent had recommended. My trepidation before arrival turned into the utmost pleasure upon arrival and I ended up staying 9 nights with a girfriend from Sydney who arriver a day later.
It is located right in the heart of the old quarter, the staff and services are exceptional and the rooms very comfortable. We thought it worth the extra cost of staying in a VIP room and will do the same again the next time we visit Vietnam. The recommended tours were great - it was absolutely a hassle-free holiday.
A pleasant stay
I stayed at Rising Dragon for 3 days and it was an enjoyable time in Vietnam. Staff are extremely helpful and nice. They are considerate and caring. I was taking a very early flight to HCMC and need to get to the airport by 4am, their nicest staff promised to call a taxi for me, otherwise he would send me there. At last, he did get me a taxi and even bargain with the driver.
Besides, the location of the hotel is very central. There is easy access to many tour spots.. especially the theatre for water puppets.
I would stay at Rising Dragon again if I go back to Hanoi.
We have just returned from 3 weeks travelling to Singapore, Cambodia and Vietnam and have stayed mainly at 5 star hotels. After reading the reviews on the rising dragon on tripadvisor we decided to give it a try. We stayed in a VIP room on the third floor which was very clean and comfortable. We had a small balcony which looked onto a very busy and noisy street, but this was exactly what we expected. We cannot praise the staff and especially the manager Hieu highly enough for their help and assistance before and during our stay there. We emailed before arriving for advice and help in purchasing train tickets and without asking for payment they were purchased on our behalf and waiting for us upon arrival.
The hotel is right in the centre of town just by the lake and within walking distance of most sights and we were glad we didn't decide to stay at one of the more expensive hotels.
If you want to stay at an economic clean and very friendly hotel then this is the one for you and I would certainly stay there again.
Great staff, location, and price!
I was recommended to check out Rising Dragon by another traveler this June 2007. I took a chance and called and booked a room for $10. Ended up staying there several nights because of how great my experience was for the first night.
Room was clean, air conditioner was very cold, and the free lobby internet was never more than a few minutes wait to be used. Breakfast was fast and free. Not elaborate, but enough to get you out the door and on your way.
Staff was very helpful, in one case even walking me several blocks to an off-the-map location.
They also facilitated the purchase of several plane tickets and taxi rides to airports. Prices seemed to be at market prices or close enough. They could also line up tickets for theaters operas and day-trips around Hanoi.
They have a package for the Hao Long Bay trip... you can find cheaper, but the boat I was on was one of the best ones out there! When I compared what I paid for 3 days/2 nights with other travelers, I found out that I got my money's worth. I think it was either $60 or $80 (I know, you can find cheaper) for that experience but again... the boat, my room (own bathroom and shower and two beds and an air conditioner that made my camera take 15 minutes to warm up when I left the room), the food, and all the extras WAS VERY WORTH THE MONEY. They do offer cheaper boat packages, by the way.
The only issue I encountered was some in-lobby confusion about if I was to pay for the $10 taxi ride from the airport or not... it was advertised as "free with stay" on their map... but the manager Mr. Hieu Vu fixed that upon my arrival - so again, even in cases of confusion, the ever-smiling, ever-helpful manager made it right! No elevator, so try to get rooms closer than on the 6th floor.
Mr. Vu was very helpful, very friendly, and his English is very good.
I would whole-heartedly recommend my parents stay there or any of my friends. When I return to Hanoi on some future trip, some nights at Rising Dragon will be in order.
Great Friendly Hotel and Helpful Staff
Stayed in this great little hotel for 2 days during my recent trip to Hanoi. It is located in the Old Quarters and within walking distance to the Puppet theatre and Hoan Kiem Lake. We booked direct with the hotel on their website and got a reply the following day. We also requested to be picked up from the airport on arrival which is free (costs US$10 per trip, about 45 mins to the hotel).
The staff were friendly and helpful and attentive. The room we were given is clean with two pretty comfortable super-single size beds, the bathroom is spacious and clean and the water pressure is good (very important for me especially when I need to wash my hair). The only disappointment is that they only provide two big towels and no small towels. Already feedback to Toan (always smiling and helpful) and I am sure he will look into it.
The decor in the reception/dinning area is great (some really nice pictures hanging on the wall) with wireless surfing available. Breakfast is simple but ok, we requested for extra coffee and they readily obliged.
We booked a 3 days cruise on the Santa Maria's Cruise through the hotel. It is a most excellent and memorable experience. Although it may be considered a little pricey, we have a good and responsible guide (Duc from Colombus Travel), great food on board and a night stay in Sunrise Resort on Cat Ba Island (excellent hotel, magnificient view).
When we arrived back at the hotel, they provided us with a place to shower and stored our luggage, even though we were not staying for the night (taking the night train to Sapa, booked through another agency). Likewise, when we came back from Sapa and leaving for home the same evening.
It's the little things that counts.
I travelled to vietnam for three weeks with my family of 4 including children aged 9 and 12. Rising Dragon was our first hotel and became the benchmark by which we judged all others. The free pick up from the airport was perfect and saved the hassle of negotiating a price. Rooms were exceptionally clean and well appointed, But the real bonus was the staff. They were the friendliest and most helpful of any we me in the country. Nothing seemed too much for them and they accomodated our family at all stages. Perfect location to everything and yet quite enough to get a good night sleep!
The noodle soup (breakfast) here was the most delicious of all those I had had during our 7-day trip in northern Vietnam. The Halong Bay tour they arranged was perfect, serving high-quality seafood in particular. They received for us train tickets arranged by a hotel in Sapa. What is more, they let us take a shower before getting on a night train to Sapa, and led us through Hanoi Train Station up to the correct car of train. Their service is well worth the price and the TripAdvisor praises.
The most genuine staff and service
Great location, rooms, service, value, and wonderfully friendly. But most of all: staff so genuinely want your stay to be good, and the trips that they arrange for you to be good. They will do as much as they can to accomplish this. Note that there is not an elevator (as is common in Ha Noi hotels), and some rooms have no window.

rising dragon hotel ?`
anyone stay there and if so whats the scoop on it......
Re: rising dragon hotel ?`
RD is very good. New hotel in renovated building -- my room had hardwood floors and bathtub --everything was brand new. good breakfast plus free WIFI (but i left my laptop at home :( ) Run by husband and wife -- she's US and he's Vietnam. i stay in hanoi often, and i'd say i can definitely recommend it -- as of last week anyway.
really hanoi has a lot of hotels - plus a lot of scam artists. you can find nearly price - but the service is sketchy. if you get there and get scammed by a hotel (they raise prices on you, don't have what is promised, etc.), I'd say just walk out. Especially if you are in the Old Quarter as there is always another hotel just down the block ...
One tip - they want to sell tours, so don't tell them if you don't plan to buy one. Just say you want to relax a few days and think about it. Sometimes that doesn't work tho, and they hassle you everytime you go in and out. But if you tell them that you dont want a tour, they'll tell you they're booked and move you to another hotel.
You might know all this already -- but if not, hope it helps.
