Fish traps
by pmarshuk
On the road to Halong Bay the stop we made was by a Cafe that had these in a shed in the yard - probably strategically placed as a photo opportunity. But I couldn't resist.
They are wicker traps which are placed in rivers and lakes to catch fish. But what an amzing collection.
Kings' Island Golf Club
by chiabh
Kings' Island has two 18s ~ the Lakeside and Mountain View courses with the first 18 opened in early-1993 and the later in mid-2004... Designed by Bob McFarland, the Lakside course plays to 6,454 yds and spans two tree-covered islands and a major peninsula projecting into the center of Dong Mo Reservoir... The newer Mountain View course was designed by Peter Rogers and play to 7,100 yds...
The Lakeside course has a number of hidden greens and at least 12 forced carries over water and swampy gorges. It is a challenging course on its own... As i have only played the Lakeside course, I do not have any comments on the Mountain View course...
SIDE TRIP - HALONG BAY
by balhannah
On the Tour I did, we were given the option of taking a small side trip with a local man in his rowboat.
The cost was very little, so I decided to do it, most people did.
BE WARNED, the Rowboat only just sits out of the water, and there are NO LIFE JACKETS, so don't go if you are scared of something happening.
He just took us through a low cave entrance into a big, open area which was very nice. On coming out, you get some nice shots, and then you go past a Floating Primary school back to your Junk.
If you can, the front of the Boat is the best position.
It was worth doing, so if you have the chance, do it!

Good taxis here!
by kokoryko
At the airport or in town it is quite easy to find a taxi.
On travel from airport to town, be sure the driver puts on the meter or if he does not want, negotiate the fare: it must not be more than 15 US$ from the airport to the old town.
In city travels, always ask the meter to be working; usually the drivers do it, but sometimes they may “forget”.
There are all sorts of cabs, and it seems they all have the same price.
If you go for off beaten areas, take a map with you, as the majority of drivers, 1) do not understand English, 2) they know only touristy places when spelled in English.
Usually, to the contrary of the motorbike taxis they do not try to cheat the tourists.
Taxi fares are cheap (despite the astronomic numbers when you pay in Dong): 1 to 1.5 US$/km. (1 US$ = 16000 VNDong); some meters display the fare divided by 1000.
Ah, Taxis sometimes drive a bit recklessly (like in many places), and if only bikes are on the opposite lane, they do not hesitate to take it (main picture).
Day or night, be sure the meter is working. (pictures 2 and 3).
