by ValbyDK
In Hanoi (and Vietnam in general) it is a tradition to have wedding photos taken at various famous places around town. Therefore, it is very common to see a wedding couple outside temples, museums and so on.
You always get a big smile and a thank you in return when you congrat them.
Hanoi City : Watching Old Folks at HoAnKiem Lake
by bpacker
Observe the old folks around Ho An Kiem Lake if you can. Do it discretely and with respect of course. You can catch them dancing tai chi, reading or playing chess in groups.
A small old man reads in solitude at Ngoc Son Temple. Clad against the cold only in a wolly warm Russian Hat and thin blue-striped pajamas.
Where:Ho An Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple.

Getting around Hanoi by bus
by emmanue113
Try getting around Hanoi by bus. Its only VND3000-5000 per ride.
The most useful is bus no.9 that goes to Ho Chin Minh Museum every 15 min or so (but be sure to say 'Ho Chin Minh' to the bus driver to confirm you're taking the correct bus). You can take the bus from Boho station at Hoen Kiem Lake, opposite the Tourist Information Centre.

Authentic cuisine and great value for money
by JJLUK about Little Hanoi
This great value restaurant in the Old Town which has a better known cafe offshoot close to Hoan Kiem Lake offers a very good introduction to Vietnamese cuisine. However, beware that there is another restaurant very close by purporting to be Little Hanoi (you need to continue past this fake to the real deal). The restaurant is popular with Backpackers/Travellers with young children. Service is friendly but can be a little slow. The soup and all things pork.
