Real Darling Cafe guesthouse: acceptable condition for the price.
To most vietnamese people or those from tropical countries, it is quite cool and sometimes chilly in April in Hanoi. But if you're from europe, north america, and new zealand and australia, you will appreciate the A/C during April&May in Hanoi (but probably not in further north of Hanoi such as Sapa!).
from my own experience I would say staying at a guest house will be o.k if your priority is to keep the cost down. my stay at real darling cafe guesthouse at 33 Hang Quat St. was not bad at all. I had a quite spacious room with two beds, a wide balcony, A/C, shower/toilette inside at $10 (but it was 3 years ago around early October, the price may be a few bucks more now). The room was clean which means no bugs, no odor. but of course for the price the chairs, tables and all other equipments weren't decent.
