train or bus??
by judz
We'te staying at the Seahorse in Phan Thiet in July but wondering the best way to get there from HCMC and then on to Nha Trang...is there a train service??
RE: train or bus??

We are also staying at the Seahorse Resort but in January next year. We were going to Nha Trang but have changed our minds after seeing Mui Ne beaches and sand dunes! We are travelling from Saigon to the resort by car. Its going to take 3-3 1/2 hrs, apparently its quite a nice drive. I think you can get a train, its quite a new service?? not sure if i'm dreaming that though. I'll have a look for you.

I wasn't dreaming it!! here is a link to the website that has the info.
http://www.muinebeach.net/
seat61 web site will probably have more details on it. It looks like it takes just as long on the train as to drive though. Let us know what you think of the resort. We are dead excited and can't wait to go :-)have a great trip

Yep there is a train service, new one. But then you have the 30 mins from Phan Thiet to MN. Car is a lot easier.

Thanks for that info...just thought the car transfer a little expensive - last year we flew to Nha Trang and it was cheaper for the flights but wanted to go somewhere different this time but hope it's as nice as the beach at Nha Trang and Hoi An.

Well I wouldn't say it's as nicer beach at them, but it is different. If you really want different then Phu Quoc is the answer, but much quieter

Travel Tips for Phan Thiet
Hoa Vien Brewery
by Gili_S
This Hoa Vien Brewery is easy to spot, you will see this "German" style mug by the road between Phan Thiet to Mui Ne. Just stop over, step into the open air restaurant and order the white or dark excellent beer they are brewing here with Czech technology. And to be honest, I lived in the Czech and that beer is as good as you can dream of.
*More about the beer I have created tip in local customs.
Visit the red canyon
by Gili_S
Further more after the Red Dunes you should continue to this beautiful red canyon. Just stop by the main road and take a stroll down the canyon. Take some water with you if you plan to take a long walk.
Mui Ne - Fishermen Village and Seaside Resort

"What to do in Mui Ne"
We got from HCMC to Mui-Ne ob the sleeper-bus (used mainly by tourists), which was a good choice, read my tip under "HCMC transportation": http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/d29d6/167100/9/
As for what to do in Mui-Ne: Besides the sea (breezy!) and the water sports, visit the red sand dunes, read my tip under "Phan Thiet things to do":
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/d29d6/167f27/4/
You can also rent a jeep+guide and go to the white sand dunes, about 20 min from Mui Ne. Definitely go and visit the Mui Ne fishermen village, which is still authentic and unspoiled, better early in the morning when the boats come back from the sea. You can watch my videos:
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/vb/167f27/d29d6/
Another nice place to visit is Fairy Spring, with a short trek in a small canyon with colored sandstone walls. It is easily accessible on foot from the main coast road.
If you want to see an example of Cham temple architecture visit the Po Shanu Cham Towers, halfway between Mui Ne and Phan Thiet. They can be reached by public bus + a short walk, or by bicycle /car / motorbike from Mui-Ne.
In Phan Thiet itself I would recommend the market (very authentic)and the picturesque fishing harbor.

Q: Mui Ne with 7 month old baby "Hello!
I am travelling with my husband and 7-month old baby to Mui Ne in January. I have to say that I am a little bit worried..."
