Going to Nha Trang
by Johnnymac1974
Just looking for some advice on going to Nha Trang. Is it easier to buy plane tickets for Nha Trang at The airport in Ho Chi Minh or is it better to buy online?
Once there how much is standard cost for a taxi into the main area?
What is good hotel in Ho Chi Minh and Nha Trang?
Appreciate any advice. Thanks

Taxi is between 5 and 6 dallars to your hotel from the saigon airport which includes my tip. There is a booth just before you exit the airport lobby where you can buy a taxi voucher. Or you can walk out of the airport entrance past the folks that are wanting to rip you off by having them use there taxi. Keep walking like you own the place and to the right you will see taxis parked on the street. Negotiate the price first by writting down the hotel you are staying at and $5USD. Be sure the taxi driver agrees. I usually show the $5 to him also. You will soon find your ride. The hotels are only a short distant. I would have the air ticket purchased by a good local viet travlel company or buy it on line. The seats fill up fast but if you buy a day or 2 before while you are there...you will most likely get a seat. AS for the hotel to stay in? You do not mention your budget? You can go very cheap by staying in the back packers area. If you want a swimming pool you will have to find a 4 or 5 star hotel. My wife and I need to cool down from the heat and humidity so we opt for a pool. We like the May Hotel,Majestic Hotel and the Grand Hotel. Good neighborhood with local restraunts and shops ect. You will pay much more if you purchase the hotels on the internet or just showing up and paying the rack rate! Everybody now is seeing the 3,4 and 5 star hotels are being booked up with all the tourist now that go to vietnam. I strongly suggest you now find a good local viet travel company to prebook everything. There mark up is very little plus its all done and you need only to relax and enjoy! I was an american soldier there in 1970 and now have been back to vietnam 5 times in the last 4 years. We use 2 different local viet travel company's that are reliable and have low costs. If you like, E-Mail me at kennbaker@msn.com and I will share who we use.

The hotels we prefer are the Asia Paradise Hotel"about $40 USD/night with roof top swimming pool and view of the ocean and if you want to splurge a little stay at the Vin Pearl Resort. Garden views are about $115/night Pool with ocean view is about $130/night

I forgot to say that it is $12USD for taxi ride into Nha Trang from the Cam Ranh Bay airport. Bus is just $2.00USD but the seats quickly are filled!

You can book a very cheap flight from HCMC to Nha Trang with Pacific Airlines online before you go to Vietnam. I booked one recently for about $32 AUD.

Make sure you don't make the same mistake I did and lose your ticket. You have to buy a whole new ticket.
I loved my guesthouse in Nha Trang. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called but it was down the street where Cyclo cafe is and it was blue. Blue... something. Cheap $8 a night, clean rooms and lovely staff.
Travel Tips for Nha Trang
The rules for a Legitimate Massage
by kingofsaigon
To find a good legitimate massage in Nha Trang (and in Vietnam) follow these rules.
If you pay before the massage, the venue is likely to be illegitimate and offer additional services for sex tourists. Even if the venue is connected to a 5 star hotel. Good legitimate massage joints will ask you to pay at the end.
Don't let motorbike taxis take you for massage. They get commission and will take you for 'boom boom'
'Boom boom' means 'happy ending'
Inspect the room first. If the room is communal and full of locals, then the venue is legitimate. If private (even VIP suites) they will try and offer extra services and assume you are a sex tourist.
Remember to tip the masseur. 50,000 VND is reasonable.

While Vietnam is not well known massage, in Nha trang you can have one that you'll never forget... therapeutic, too. it's not "local", though... but basque. Charly is a professional masseur, trained in Spain and in Japan, that has just relocated to Nha Trang and set up his practice, there, making his own massage oils as well. He's also an Aikido sensei.
Not only he'll give yuo an excellent massage (for only 10 dollars), hhe'll also share with you precious tips for a healthier and better life (but don't touch his beer, it's his only unhealthy habit)... words of wisdom - and by looking at him you'll understand why... he's 57 years old and looks 20 years younger.
You can reach Charly though his practice, Therapevite - at Lo 50, hemm 222, Le Hong Phong TP. If you call him, he'll come and pick you up on his motorbike.
Bha Yai beach
by call_me_rhia
Forget Nha trang city beaches, and forget the islands, too. If you want an unspoilt beach, frequented only by locals, with great and cheap seafood, and especially with excellent waves to body-surf, head to Bha Yai beach.
Finding the beach is not really easy, and you'll need to rent a mortobike or hire a taxi to get there, as it is about 30 minutes driving from Nha Trang. Take the airport road, go up the "mountain2, and as you come down, when you reach flat ground again, take the first road on the left... it'll take you straight to the beach. It's not sign-posted...
Good food but...
by bpwarne about Truc Linh 1
This place always had quite a crowd in it whenever I passed by so I decided to give it a try one afternoon. Pleasant enough atmosphere with streetside outdoor dining. Food was very good. Problem was, I got quite sick with diaherra within about 2 hours after eating there.
Hard to give a good review under such circumstances. I had some spring rolls and some stirr fried veggies w/rice.
Island boat trip
by stedeb
We took an all day island trip and was very different to what we expected. We spent hours swimming in crystal clear water with snorkels to view the coral, having loads to eat and not to mention "Happy Hour"
This was the most fun day we had in 23 days of trekking around Vietnam.
