Most expensive I looked at
I looked at rooms in this hotel in April, 2008. This is definitely a nice hotel, perhaps the very best in Sapa, certainly the nicest one I investigated. Rooms in the new wing were $100USD and up. Rooms in the old wing, nt near as nice, were $50 and up but none were available when I looked. Fantastic views from most rooms, great security as it had a security guard at the front door both times I was there. Spotless with beautiful furnishings, it seemed entirely out of place in Sapa. If you want the best that Sapa has to offer and are prepared to pay for it, this is the spot.
Unique Quality: Extremely high price, even for Sapa.

This room was beautiful. Sapa was freezing when we were there in January and coming back to this room at night was great! The room was of very high quality, it even had a little electric fire heater. The entire hotel was nice.Staff very friendly. Breakfast was good, free internet access.

Sapa's Jewel
Stayed in a mountain view room (in new wing) with a to die for view in October 05. Misty Mountain Top.
Watched local artisans at work from our balcony. Staff friendly and most helpful organising motorbike training for Hanoi bike experience.
Returning in October 07 with four friends to share this most memorable experience!

After our overnight train trip to Sapa, do we arrange for accomodation straight away....really what i am asking is what do we do with our luggage?

When I went last year I arranged a hotel after the train so we went staright there and checked in. I would reccommend doing this. Go for the soft sleeper option it is quite comfortable, i was able to sleep. The Hotel we stayed at is Chau Long Sapa Hotel. www.chaulonghotel.com it was quite nice.

Thanks for that. What time did you arrive in Sapa...How much did the soft sleeper cost and I am travelling with two other friends so we would want to stay together, whould we be able to?. Also what did the hotel cost. What did you do when you were there?...

From memory we arrived about 9am I cannot remember how much tthe hotel was but you can check that out on the website, we went for a day trip to the valley where the miority people live, walked through the rice paddies, went to a local school, visited the markets also walked up the Dragons Jaw Mountain which is located in the middle of the main town and is kind of like a mini botanic garden.

Went to Sapa about 6 weeks ago - the overnight train takes you to lao Cai - you have to catch transport to take you from there to Sapa (about an hour?)- plenty of options outside lao cai station ( mini bus, bikes) that will look for your custom - arrived Sapa mid morning and was lucky to get into hotel room right away - stayed at Cat Cat Hotel which had magnificent views - the day trips down into the valley are brilliant -

After the train arrive Lao Cai station, take the local bus to Sapa-about 1hours. Normal, There are 3trains to Lao Cai everyday, the first arrive Sapa at 5a.m, the second at about 6:30, the last arrive at 7:30, with the soft sleeper berth, the price about 17USD/1way.
Many kind of hotel for your choose, mini hotel as Queen hotel: from 10 to 15USD/per night,
