This was one of our best stays in Vietnam. Good location, beautiful rooms, excellent service. The staff were wonderful, very welcoming and would run out to give you your key when you returned to the hotel. Breakfast was wonderful- order the chocolate pancakes. Free internet and bike hire. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Directions: 5 mins from centre of old town
This is by far the best hotel I've ever stayed in whlst travelling in Vietnam. In 3 separate trips to Vietnam I've stayed in the country for 2 months in total but my 5 nights here were the highlight. The rooms were spotless and beautifully decorated, the bathroom was gorgeous and the breakfast buffet has to be seen, and eaten, to be believed. The staff were fantastic...complimentary cold drinks upon arrival, then complimentary drinks when we were leaving and waiting for the driver. The staff wre so helpful in booking restaurants for us and confirming onward travel arrangements. I would love to stay here again...it's a peaceful oasis in a bustling town but the central market is just at the bottom of the street,
Unique Quality: Stunning buildings, outstanding breakfast that puts 5 star hotels to shame.
Directions: Two minutes to the central market, 5-10 minutes to the centre of town

Red Market which is situated within walking distance to where I was staying ( the Pousada de Mong Ha Hotel) is a great place to buy branded tees which come from the factory outlets where they are made. Labels include Agnes b and Polo can be found in these factory outlet clothing shops. You just need patience and time to search around. Good Luck! Womens, mens, children's tees, tops and bottoms. Sports shorts, pants and even pyjamas can be found at the shops. US$5 about.
Unfortunately, there are no simple guesthouses, like e.g. in LAOS. There are always hotels, except in the far Northwest and in the Mekong Delta. Depend how much time you want to invest. At the time I was there you could find good and clean places with shower for 7/8 US$ if you look around. In case you go by the suggestions of the Guide Books, you will wind up with 10 to 15 US$, which is still acceptable. The quality is not always corresponding to the price. In the South you better make sure that you have a room with air-condition.
As far as I am concerned, do not book with breakfast, get your noodle soup fresh on the street. There are two hotels I can recommend.
One in Hanoi which is more an apartment hotel for 12 US$ incl. breakfast and they also take your dirty wash in 24 hours

I stayed at the Ha An hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is well located and has a beautiful garden. I took the deluxe room and the room and bathroom were very clean. The hotel paid attention to details and there were lovely touches like a fruit basket, rose petals on the bed and bathroom, small tea pot to brew chinese tea (though there was no kettle in sight). Breakfast is provided and I enjoyed having it under a gazebo, overlooking the garden. The breakfast slection was good and the food was tasty. My only gripe with the hotel were the beds. It can be a little hard but i got used to it after the 1st night. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Ha An and will be back soon.
The Ha An Hotel is one of Hoi An's best kept secrets. The location is brilliant, with a short stroll into the markets, town centre and river. The staff were attentive, professional and friendly and made the stay very enjoyable. The breakfast is a highpoint, with a range of the freshest local and global foods available to suit all tastes.
The greeting was the warmest we received anywhere on our 3 week holiday and the rose petals and flowers and fresh fruit in the room on our arrival added to the welcome.
The owner of the hotel knows how to train and support her staff and it is evident they enjoy working at the Ha An Hotel and take pride in the hotel. We will return next year for a week of relaxation in this wonderful location.
Based on the other reviews, we booked with Ha An and the reviews were absolutely right: this is a fantastic place to stay. We stayed in multiple "boutique hotels" around Vietnam, but this one ranks with the best. A reception where English is spoken very well, a nice and warm welcome, a marvelous room and a superb location within the center of Hoi An.
If you're willing to spend a little more than on other hotels, don't hesistate to book here!
This was the best hotel we stayed at within Vietnam and Thailand. We caught an open bus tour to Hoi An and Ha An picked us up from the drop off point in a taxi (free of charge), and welcomed us with tea and biscuits. We were given the option of all the different rooms with no pressure. The rooms were beautifully decorated and clean, with rose petals scattered throughout. The gardens were beatiful, and the buffet breakfast was delicious. Touches like the free bike hire and internet made were great. Wonderful service too, when we would return to the hotel at the evening a staff member would be waiting at the entrance with our key. Highly recommended.
Staying in the Ha An hotel has been a memorable experience for all the right reasons.Set in lush gardens this sets expectaions high for what awaits inside. It certainly did not disappoint. Our twin room at 30US per night included air con ,free internet and a buffet breakfast to just die for!
Our room was spotless wth fresh flowers placed strategically in both the bedroom and bathroom. We cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful staff here .Without exception, each person was nicer than the next. They simply couldnt do enough for us .This service along with the beautiful setting and central location made for a wonderful time.We will certainly be sorry to leave and cannot recommend this hotel highly enough to other travellers. It was the little touches and attention to detail that made all the difference.Enjoy !

Can't visit Hanoi without going to Ha Long Bay. But is it best to book a tour from Hanoi, or to make our way out to Haiphong and find something there (or elsewhere)? Are there smaller local boats available?
Definately best to book from Hanoi and you'll probably save a bit.

I joined the 2D1N tour from VegaTour(Fansipan Travel) which is recommended by Lonelyplanet guidebook. It's a very good experienced to travel with this Vega Tour and the guide was fantastic. MOst of all less tourists onboard compare to other travel agency.
Book from Ha Noi- It is cheaper and more convenient....Vietnam is very tourist friendly and they know what works and they make everything so incredibly easy. If you did do it the other way you would not save any time or money. Althought it would be a different experience which counts for something.
