Nam Hai Hotel, Hanoi, Vietnam

by Michael_S about Nam Hai Hotel, Hanoi, Vietnam

$20/night for twin room w/ AC, private bath, and include breakfast (ask for Vietnamese noodle soup) Beautiful hotel with wood finishing. Very friendly English-speaking staff. Near to Hoan Kiem Lake. One block from Hang Gai St. (shopping area). 100 feet right of hotel has an excellent restaurant serving traditional beef rice noodle for 8,000 Dong (see photo).

WOW in the middle of nowhere

incredibly detailed place. The occupancy is incredibly low which makes you wonder how long they are going to be able to stay open. The staff to guest ratio is therefore incredibly high making service wonderful. You basically will have the place to yourself. exquisite design and detailing

Fantastic stay at the Nam Hai

by TripAdvisor Member RobM74

We stayed at the Nam Hai for 5 nights during a trip around Vietnam and Cambodia and from our perspective it could be our favourite hotel in Vietnam.

After leaving Hanoi where the weather was cloudy every day and with one of us coming down with a cold I was really hoping that Hoi An would treat us better. Thankfully not only was the town an absolute delight but the hotel was amazing too. However, even the best has room to improve!

We were staying in a pool villa which I have to say was absolutely amazing and probably one of the best hotel rooms I have stayed in. You have two separate buildings - a lounge/dining building and a bedroom/bathroom building, your own pool and sunbathing area. You also have your own butler who has their own kitchen area in the grounds of your room. Everything about the accommodation was fantastic. The layout of the rooms, the view down the beach to the sea, the free mini bar, the free afternoon tea and evening drink and canapes. It truly was the ultimate indulgence and really made you feel relaxed and special. Our butler, Phoung was excellent too. Nothing was too much trouble, even offering to help us get some cold medicine.

As we were there for five nights I booked the five day treatment at the spa which again was fantastic. The spa set up is great with individual villas built out into the water to truly relax you. All the treatments were great and left me feeling truly relaxed.

Staff service was fantastic. We organised through the hotel tours to Hue and also to My Son with a guide. It was great to be able to see a bit more while we were around the area and the guide was fantastic and able to bring to life a lot of had happened to the area and its history. The hotel has a complimentary shuttle into Hoi An which is also great, however, as we had a pool villa we were also able to make use of a driver for free too which meant that when we had ordered suits we were able to go back and pick them up at our leisure without being restricted to the shuttle bus times.

The only let down we felt was in respect of the restaurant. Whilst breakfast was great and you could have all the expected offerings, it was the evening sitting that was a bit of a let down. The hotel is very large and has only the main restaurant and a pool restaurant which operates a themed buffet every evening. Not being keen on buffets we chose to eat at the main restaurant, however, not only is the menu relatively limited it also doesn't change day-to-day and there are no specials. If you are staying for more than 2 nights this means that you very quickly run out of different meals to eat. The food is good, I really enjoyed it, however, the other half thought it was just average. However, after spending one night eating at the Mango Rooms in Hoi An where we were just blown away by the food this put the hotel's offering into sharp comparison. Such a shame as everything else was absolutely perfect.

Overall it was a fantastic hotel, well located, with excellent service and one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in. Plus we had clear blue skies and sunshine the whole time we were there!

Heaven On Earth

This hotel was simply incredible. Luxury all the way. From the moment we arrived it was amazing. We stayed in a three bedroom villa on the ocean, views were spectacular, furnishings were stunning, Ms. Ha greeted us upon arrival and catered to our every whim. She brought me my latte every morning, served us cold drinks, helped us with reservations, booking spa treatments.
Spa was beautiful. Food was delicious, chef was fantastic. Pools everywhere. It was too hot, July was the only time we could travel. Make sure you go into town and have clothes made, I wish we had more done. Use the tailor that the Nam Hai uses.....excellent NALY I think it was called. Great local food in town as well.

Best in Vietnam

by TripAdvisor Member MindWideOpen

The hotel was spectacular. I was concerned because of some earlier negative reviews. I was relieved to find that they had improved a lot now that they had opened for more than a year. The hotel has a new general manager since November 2007 and everything was just fabulous. The beach is as nice as Aruba’s and is much better than Sanya, China's. The spa is amazing and I highly recommend the Nam Hai Four-Hands massage, even my partner who never cared for spa loved it. All masseuses were hired from Indonesia. The various infinity pools were beautiful so make sure to bring your swimming wear. The staffs could be a little over-eager but we didn’t feel pressured to hand out tips.

The only downside was the restaurant. The breakfast had a wide variety but average quality. We didn’t even bother to try the dinner as Hoi an has several great restaurants, in the order of my preference: Morning Glory, Mango Room, and Cargo Club.

The hotel is expensive but well worth every penny. We found a good price on Agoda.com which included breakfast.

Room: We were upgraded to the beachfront villa. The contemporary designed room was spacious and well equipped. The cappuccino machine was a nice touch. Entertainment system was the best I’ve seen: it came with iPod and many newly released movies, all for free.

Location: The hotel is about 15 minutes from the Hoi an town and it provides complementary shuttle service.

Conclusion: Nam Hai is the best hotel in Vietnam and we look forward to visit other GHM resorts.

wonderful resort but... service could be better !

The Nam Hai appears suddenly as a mirage... The few kilometers between the airport and the resort don't reveal any picturesque view of this part of Vietnam even if one of the architectural jewel, Hoi An, is only at 10-15 minutes.
We spent one night in the resort nammed "beach world best beach resort of the world" and we have been extremly happy to discover a sensationnal resort in front of a peaceful beach, perfect for a long walk in front of the China sea. This is a large resort of about 100 villas beautifully designed and marvellously decorated in a unique style, an interesting blend of modern design and vietnamese touches. We stayed in the wonderful pool villa 2022 from where the view is exceptionnal. There was a pond garden and after a few steps, a large pavillion with a sumptuous living and dining room with a flat screen TV and a bose system very efficient with a large selection of in-house movies and video clips free of charge.
On both side, there is a spectacular bedroom, very interesting layout with different step levels and still a scenic view on the garden and the ocean. Each room has a fantastic bathroom with an indoor and outdoor rain shower and you'll find the bathtub between the bed and the bathroom, so romantic and relaxing.
You'll find all the best amenities like a complimentary mini bar with a selection of spirits and snacks, Aqua di Parma bath products and your personal butler will give you a basket of delights for the high tea and some exquisite canapés with a glass of wine before dinner.
In this villa, there was a private infinity pool secluded in a garden in front of the sea but unfortunately, it wasn't heated and thus we didn't use it...
We have had a very good dinner at the restaurant and i don't think it's overpriced as some members tend to say. 100US$ for a dinner for 3 is really reasonnable with the standard of this hotel and moreover, it was delicious. The breakfast is incredible and the spa is sensationnal but, a bit expensive...
Consequently, why not to give 5 points??? Just because the service has to be improved... A turn down service at 4,30pm is not acceptable especially when the weather is sunny... To offer the high tea and the glass of wine in the same time is not adaptated with a five stars hotel... Not to clean immediatly the coffee cup and pot drunk by a customer in the library is not really good for the other customers... Not to give any water when you order the lunch in your villa is not nice... Maybe we haven't had chance with our butler, a young lady with a very approximative english who only wanted to go back in her family as soon as possible for the Tet celebration but when we pay about 1000 US per night, the butler has to be more available...
But i'm confident for the future. This resort is one of the most beautiful place i've seen in the world and it's still pretty new... Maybe the staff needs more training and when all of them will be efficient and available, this resort will be one of the very best around the globe.

A plus experience

by TripAdvisor Member oldmel

One of the nicest places we've ever stayed. 3 couples and 1 single had a 4 bedroom villa. Each "bedroom" was a small house on three levels, super deluxe, with in-room satellite services, Internet, great music, soft drinks and beer (all complimentary), espresso machine. We also had a common building with couches, tv, table, private infinity pool of good size (though heat was not working and we needed it). Terrific young lady butler who took good care of us including daily laundry (no charge). Also complimentary were hard liquor, transportation on demand to and from town, afternoon snacks. The breakfast is off the charts and can be enjoyed either at the big house or in your villa (I recommend the big house). We had an early flight were brought a sumptuous breakfast of our choice at 5:45am including pho, cao lo, and all the American breakfast dishes ordered. Staff were all friendly (we said good morning 100 times between our villa and the main house). We only ate our breakfast--included in our room price--at the resort--had all other meals in town. They were great and cheap (Brothers--most upscale, Ly Kitchen). We though the restaurant food was way too expensive and prefer the informal restaurants better anyway. Did not use the spa because the massages were way expensive ($130 vs. $22 at our 5-star hotel in Ho Chi Minh City).

Doesn't get Better

This hotel is an absolute oasis...it is simply divine in all respects. We have travelled all over Asia and stayed at many 5 star hotels. This goes in that category that exceeds 5 stars. Hats off.
