More about Palm Garden Resort
Good hotel but noisy on occasion
by TripAdvisor Member Dukeno1
The palm Gardens rooms are arranged in 2 level blocks throughout the grounds. We were on the top level but the ground level of our block was the games area so sometimes it could get noisy early morning with early risers playing pool etc. The rooms themselves were very comfortable and clean. Cafe Colibra we were told had its own pizza oven which we tried but it was nothing to write home about.
The breakfast spread was adaquate but not as good as the other hotels on our tour. The pool area however was very good and the beach was fantastic as the hotel was directly on the beach.
Hoi An itself was okay but very busy place. Ate at the renowned Brothers Cafe on night in Hoi An but the meal was very expensive for Vietnam and to be honest not worth the money.
There was however a great little restaurant called Sao Mai (Morning Star) at 48 Bach Dang. Don't be put off by the decor, the food was fantastic, service good and had a brilliant feast for approx £6 with drinks included. Apparently Hoi An is also a great place to have clothes and shoes handmade. You can browse catalogues such as next and just have your measurements taken and 24 hours later have a perfect outfit made to your instructions. We didn't try this service but some on our tour had lovely outfits made.
Best Stay I've had in years
by TripAdvisor Member KimAustin
I had 3 sites in mind for my Hoi An stay, Golden Sands, Victoria, and Palm Garden. Chose the later b/c of the "under the stars" tub in the bungalow. I LOVED the layout of our beachfront bungalow... the bathroom is outdoors in the courtyard, the tub was under the stars. The actual room w/the bed opened into the beach. The beach was clean, free of vendors, .... it was absolutely amazing to lie on their hammocks. The pool is the best of all 3 sites (I visited the other sites out of curiousity)... Very helpful and friendly staff. The food was "okay"... but most hotels in VN are not very good w/western food.
Negative... the "lounge/club" is very poorly arranged. Huge room... limited chairs. The musicians actually have a nice voice and the guitarist is good... but being in that room w/that type of music (more laid back) puts me to sleep. There is no character to that room. I know someone complained in another post about it being loud, I though it's quite the opposite here. I would have LOVED if they moved the guitarists and vocalists outdoors by the pool bar area. W/the wind, by the sea and pool, the music would have been heavenly. But that's only my wish.
The spa was okay... but great for the value!! Overall, I enjoyed the stay and would definitely return. Oh, it was frog season... and being a "garden"... I saw quite a bit of frogs ... babies to adult.
Best vacation I had in years.
really 4* and beach front rooms not value for money
by TripAdvisor Member luxury-lizard
My husband just returned from Vietnam - we stayed 2 nights at the Palm Garden paying a significant premium for a beach front villa. These villas have a (large) open-air bathroom which looks very nice but was far too hot (eg close to 40C) when we were there - ruining the effect. I would recommend a sea-view room (with indoor bathroom). While rated as 5* I would say it is more like a 4*. Breakfast buffet was very ordinary. Pool, beach and gardens are all lovely.
Very Nice

This resort is really beautiful. Great beachfront Bungalows, great pool, great beach and great landscape. I was pleasantly surprised after we checked in and saw our room. I will definitely come back.
Lovely hotel
by TripAdvisor Member shortl
We stayed here for 5 nights - having been told it was a 4 star in the UK and payed very little for it, we were suprised and delighted when we arrived. The grounds and rooms (we had a top floor garden view room) were lovely, the staff incredibly friendly and helpful, and the spa was lovely and cheap (I had a very high quality manicure and pedicure for about a fiver). There's also free internet access in the business centre.
We went during the low season so had no issues with noise but I can imagine the atmosphere may be a little different during more crowded times. I didn't try the pool but my husband said it was too uncomfortably warm to swim when it was 100 degrees outside. The beach is idyllic though with plenty of loungers and hammocks.
Hoi An town with its many restaurants and bars is a short cab ride or free shuttle away. My husband had two suits made for £30 - would particularly recommend Hanh tailors at No 2 Le Loi.
We would definitely stay here again in the future.
loved the pool

Stayed her for 6nights and loved it.
The hotel has a huge pool which always seemed to be quiet so was very peaceful, and the beach was very clean and the sea warm.
The hotel and grounds are beautiful and its all very peaceful and clean and the spa is also very good where I had a pedicure and manicure which was done very well and cost £20.
There is also a nurse at the hotel and the treatment is free which is peace of mind for when you are away.
The restaraunts are okay but expensive and empty as everybody eats out in Hoi an.
There is a shop across the road which will do any laundury you have for 1/4 of the price and also you can get all your water ect there for 1/4 of the price too.
There is a courtesy bus into Hoi an but its not at the most convenient times so a taxi is $5 which is fine.
I would definatley come back to this hotel the only problem is the food is expensive but they have to make there money somewhere.
Fantastic

What a beautiful experience. Located at 10 mns bus drive from downtown . The hotel provides you with the navette. Gorgeous pool in an excellent environment. The staff is reliable and extremely courteous. Business center provides free internet. We love our rooms
Nice resort!
by TripAdvisor Member Kirby319
My family of four, with two children aged 9 and 6 spent 4 days at this resort just last week and it was a very pleasant experience.
We stayed in a beachside bungalow which was a moderately sized room with an "outside" bathroom. This bathroom was large but it was too hot in the boiling summer sun. The beach view from the balcony was lovely.
The grounds of the hotel are supurb and it is very well located with a couple of cheap restaurants across the road that also do your laundry cheaply. The beach is alo beautiful.
The pool area is very attractive although it is seperated from the beach so you dont get the breezes or the view. However, my main gripe about the pool is that the water was too hot and was not at all refreshing. The tiles are mostly dark blue and attract the heat.
Although this hotel is very good I must say that I preferred the Golden Sands where we also stayed for 4 nights. The pool at the GS is much better (and cooler) and the suites are cheaper and better. Having said that, Palm Garden is still a very nice place.
NIce Resort for the Area
by TripAdvisor Member SeoulSurvivor
We stayed 7 nights so we got to know the resort fairly well. Overall the resort is very clean, quiet with friendly staff. It appeared to be the most value for money in Hoi An. We had a quick look at the Furama while we were there and for the price we paid we were happy with what we had. We enjoyed our stay very much.
A few minor issues for us when we stayed . . .
English is very basic so be patient
Food is ok, nothng to rave about. Not much variety at breakfast
Power was interupted every so often. More than 10 times a day easily. The power, however, was always restored within 30 seconds. Can be a pain sometimes when your watching your favourite sport show.
We stayed in the Bungalow pool view. Nice big rooms but a few design issues. Firstly the bathroom is outside. This was inconvenient as the weather was stinking hot and when you finished your shower you were just sweating instantaneosly. Secondly the bathtub was a highlight for the resort but if you liked bathing in 35c temperature then the pool would have been a better option
No mirrors inside so for the wife it was inconvenient to put on the makeup etc
The air conditioner was weak. It was just not cold. Quite frustrating as the temperature during our stay was about 35+ everyday.
The pool was a warm bath tub. Beach was a little better but not cold enough to really cool down after some sunbaking
Bungalows were too close to each other and you literally had to close all curtains for some privacy just to dress.
One suggestion for the management is that you should be visible and interacting with customers as they can give you immediate feedback and you can get a sense of the mood from visitors.
Notwithstanding all of the above we really did enjoy our stay. The restaurants outside and the town of Hoi An is well worth seeing. If you like really really like hot weather then July is the time to go. It was just a bit too hot for us especially if you have a baby less than 3 years old.
The highlight for us was the laundry lady (middle shop) just in front of the resort . . . typical of the Vietnam culture and people, very friendly with a warm heart!
Beautiful and peaceful
by TripAdvisor Member AnnieWoAdelaide
My husband and teenage daughter stayed for 7 nights mid July. Hotel was beautiful, peaceful and clean. My only issue was no shade over pool plus I felt that the pool area could have been kept to the high standard of the rest of the hotel. We felt after staying in Malaysia at the Rasa Ria ,Kota Kinabulu that Palm Gardens could take a tip from that resort by having Happy Hours,? Pool sports to help guests mingle etc. I would definitely go back and encourage others to visit. The local shops and restaurants are very good value for money. Some may be put off by the dreadful state of the pavements and no lighting outside the hotel. We walked most nights and did not feel at all afraid.

where to stay/ what to do
by naturalbornflier
Hi
I will be visiting Vietnam again next May. Never been to beach resorts so am after adviceon where to stay etc ( there will be 2 couples, 1 quite old)
We would like a lovely hotel on the beach, good quality etc?
Also, for trips shall we go into town and haggle etc or arrange up front with tour operator?
Finally, how best to get there from Hong Kong? Can we fly direct to Da Nang
Many thanks in advance
Emma

Hi, there are a number of resorts on the beach at Cua Dai Beach (5km from Hoi An town) including Agribank, and Hoi An Beach Resort both of which are good but Hoi An Beach resort has a friendlier feel and is smaller. Trips can be had from the hotel or in the street with the street more amenable to haggling on the price. I understand you can now fly direct from Hong Kong to Danang. Cheers, Steve

Hi,
There are plenty of resorts along the beach: golden sand, Victoria, Palm Garden, Hoi An beach resort, etc.... and you can book online for all.
If you like photography there is a great tour to do: Hoi An photo tour. It is just amazing, discovering places away from tourist tracks fr sunrise or sunset, and realize your best photos thanks to the guide (a French professional photographer). More information on www.hoianphototour.com

In my opinion there are only Three hotels in Hoi An. that you should consider
Palm Garden Resort. The Victoria. and the Golden Sands. The life resort is in the middle of no where. the Hoi An hotel is very noisy. spend a little more and enjoy your holidays. i stayed at the Palm Garden its in a great posision and five star. Grumphy

The Life Resort is in the middle of nowhere??? We stayed there in May and we stepped out of the front entrance straight into Hoi Ancient Town! Are you sure you have the correct place?
We loved the Life Resort and are planning to stay there again in May 2008. The price is good and the proximity to the Ancient Town makes it very convenient. Not so convenient for the beach, although we weren't there for the beach.
Cheers,
David

I had great weather in Hoi An from about Sept 1 - 5, sometimes cloudy but generally great and in the pool everyday (we didn't stay by the beach).By the time I arrived in Cambodia 2 or 3 weeks later there was a cyclone off Hoi An and lots of damage - who can tell?
Check out weather Underground - www.wunderground.com - where you can look up weather for any dates and places over the past couple of years. We did this and decided we were going to be OK!
There were a lot of new places going up on the beachfront.
In Vietnam I found the majority of beds hard and just got used to it!
Cheers

Not sure about the weather that time of the year but we stayed at the Palm Garden Resort for 5 days last year and it was fantastic. We emailed the hotel directly and got a very good deal in a duluxe beachfront room. Whilst we really like the hotel it would have also been nice to stay in Hoi An to get a better feel for the town, though the hotel has regular shuttles into town.

And what someone can say about the sea in July? What about plancton, meduse and so on?
I'll spend in Hoi An 7 days in July. I hope the weather will be sunny. But what about the sea and waves?
