postal info Hoi An

by lucylootravels

Hi all, Im returning to lovely Hoi An in september and i will no doubt be trying to leave with loads of handmade goodies that i cant carry, does anyone have any info on costs or restrictions to sending large parcels to the uk?

I know a couple of people have mentioned waiting 3 months-is this standard-does anyone know if there is a quicker service than this?

Many Thanks in advance for any info!

My experience with Vietnam post has not been good. There is a lot of theft in the postal department and English addresses are hard for them to understand, so my mail just got lost somewhere. UPS or DHL are much better, but extremely expensive.

Travel Tips for Hoi An

The Harbour

by SirRichard

Hoi An is nowadays 5 kms away from the coast. The coastline has changed and the river became too shallow for navigation, so Danang is a much better harbour now.
But you can still see little fishing boats arriving to the harbour every morning to deliver the daily captures and sell them at the local market.

FISHING & LIVING ON THE WATER AT HOI AN

by balhannah

Located on the river, right in front of the Phoi Hoi Riverside resort, is a Fisherman's home and his fishing net. The bridge that crosses the River here, is a good place to watch how the Net operates, and how the people get to their home on the narrow piece of bamboo.

If you are only in Hoi An then this is a good spot to see how a Fishing net operates.

traditional music

by richiecdisc

With your Old Town admission ticket not only get to walk the timeless streets of Hoi An’s Old Town but you get to visit a number of other attractions. These range from old timber homes to various ethnic meeting places of Hoi An’s colorful past. Another feature is a display of local handcrafts as well as a concert of traditional local music. This is located on Nguyen Thai Hoc, right in the heart of the Old Town. The music is quite interesting and worth taking the time to enjoy. It’s free with your entrance anyway.

Cheaper Dive Ct in Hoi An - Cham Island Diving Ctr

by kelnsha

Though I did not dive with them but manage to find get some information from them.

Cham islands are a group of 8 islets offshore Hoi An, about 7 miles from Cua Dai Beach to the East. This area boasts pictureque fishing villages and beaches, numerous cliffs and coral reefs, together with thousands of species of tropical marine life, thus making the islands a mysterious marine world. These islands are home to valuable salangane nest. You do not need to bring your dive gears cos they charge US$60 for 2 boat dives inclusive of dive equipment & lunch on the beach. They also US$25 for snorkeling trip. Day trips are from 7:30am to 4:30pm.

just outside the city limits, rural Vietnam awaits

by richiecdisc

Since we had four days in Hoi An and it's a pretty small town, we decided to just walk out one of the roads to see what we could find food-wise on the outskirts. We not only found banh dap, a tasty snack, but also we were surprised at how rural it got too. Rice paddies spread for as far as the eye could see and we enjoyed to watch the locals working their land. Walk out Huynh Thuc Khang and you'll see a very different part of Hoi An.
