Speed trap or Policemen ahead
by muddybok
Sometime you will wonder why the bus/van is travel super slow on express way. The reason is there are speed traps or police road block ahead.
Because the penalty for road transport offends is very severe, the motorists had developed a very comprehensive sign language to inform motorists from opposite direction of all possible policemen threats.

The Rockpile
by iwys
The Rockpile, in northern Quang Tri Province, is the first stop north of Hue on the DMZ tour. It was a famous listening post during the Vietnam War, which US troops were helicoptered in and out of, and from which they guided bombers. It was also an artillery base with a huge array of big guns, including 175 long Toms, 8-inchers on tracks, 105s and 155s.
I found this story from a Vietnam vet who was based there: ' I had a pet rat on the Rock Pile. One night I awoke with him crawling across my head. I figured out he was after my food. So after that, I would leave a little piece of food at the foot of my sleeping bag. The rat would come up at night, eat the food, When I would wake up in the morning, the rat would run out.' Jim DeMers, USMC, 1st Radio Batallion, January 1967.
Cyclo
by jmmorgan
There were loads of cyclo drivers outside our hotel. We negotiated with two of them to take us for a 1 hour ride around Hue. We paid $3 each. Which was probably too much but heck who cares!
The two drivers were very entertaining with stories as we went along. At one point they had a play race with each other.
When we were out next day with our guide they saw us and were calling to us. Our guide says that they will not forget us and if we come back to Hue they will be our drivers for always.
Good Indian option
by Willettsworld about Omar Khayyam's Indian Restaurant
Being bit an Indian food fan, I came across this Indian restaurant along the main tourist drag in Hue where you'll find more restaurants as well as tourist shops, bars, hotels and guesthouses. The usual Indian selection of food can be found on the menu and I had a pretty reasonable curry, rice, naan and beer which was well priced.
