Nice new hotel

The Sinh Tourist organization arranged this hotel for me. My room was huge and I - travelling alone had two huge double beds in the room. The shower was great and all the amenities were up to Western standards.

Unique Quality: Hotels are hotels but this place tried to meet my few demands with a smile.

Queries about Hue

by wanee

I plan to visit Hue in early Dec but have queries...
Is there any intercity bus from Hanoi to Hue and back to Hanoi?
How long is the travelling time by the bus?
How many days in advance do I need to book the bus ticket from Hanoi?
How many days will it be enough to see Hue?

Thanks :)

Yes you can catch the bus Hanoi-Hue go to any travel agencies and there are many who will happily book your tiecket. According to the Sinh Cafe brochure I picked up 2 years ago it is 16 hours by bus(660kms),leaving Hanoi 5.30pm $US 9 pp one way. Hope this is useful.

Sorry forgot to answer all the questions.
I would say 3 days will give you a chance to spend 1 day on the Perfume River day trip very good, a day to lok around the Citadel & museum and maybe a day to wander around the town and look at other things??? You should be able to get a bus the day after booking.

Tourist bus daily leaves at 7:00pm and get to Hue at 6:30 - 7:00 next day.
Price around 7 - 9 $ ( in the Old quater ).
3 days for Hue is ok.

I would say i prefered the motorbike trip rather than the Perfume river boat trip which a bit slow- and sometimes you even need a motorbike to go to the tumb as the boat stops a bit far away. The boat tour i found was a bit slow. I saw more in half a day by motorbike than during a whole day cruise, although the cruise is very cheap. So i would recommend the motorbike if you want to see as many tumbs as possible (Khai Dinh was my favorite) , or the Perfume river boat if you want to take it easy. Two days minimum and three days maximum i would say.

Actually, I travelled by open bus from Hanoi and arrived Hue at 6 or 7 am. I rent a mortorbike to go around Hue, and in 1 day, I visited almost the popular destinations, inlcuded the market. Driving in Hue is soo nice, cause the streets are not crowded. Everything just seem slower in Hue.
3 days is ok, but if i have a choice, I 'll go to Hoi An for the next day.
Good luck,
Hien

Travel Tips for Hue

Royal Tombs

by 34N118W

While in Hue, take a tour of some of the Royal Tombs around the city. Some of the significant tombs are: the Tomb of Dong Khanh, Tu Duc, Thieu Tri, Khai Dinh, Minh Mang, and Gia Long. Admission varies from $2-$4 dollars per tomb.

Umbrella

by Willettsworld

Hue's weather is infamously bad: the Truong Son Mountains just to the south seem to bottle up all the moisture, so it's usually misty, drizzly or outright rainy. Things get even wetter than usual in the winter rainy season, especially from February to the end of March. To be safe, bring along an umbrella any time of year. It was drizzling all day when I went on my Perfume River trip which spoilt it a little.

Tomb of Tu Doc

by leffe3

Built after Minh Mang, between 1864 and 1867 and was actually used before the emperor's death, such was the vast scale of the 'tomb' (ironically, no-one knows where his body actually lies - all 200 servants involved in his burial were beheaded to prevent grave-robbers!).

It is very much inspired by Minh Mang's tomb - another harmonious synthesis of nature (lakes, gardens) and any number of temples, pavillions, a harem (now in ruins, but Tu Doc had 104 wives and countless concubines!) - even a theatre.

Tomb of Tu Doc is the closest of the Nguyen Royal tombs to Hue, approximately 5kms south of the city.

Entry to the tomb is 55,000 Dong.

bus

by TomorrowsAngel

Hue has two long-distance bus stations: services from the south pull into An Cuu station, 3km southeast of the centre along Highway 1, while buses from Hanoi and the north dump you at An Hoa station, 4km northwest on Highway 1. Cyclos are on hand to take you into the centre.
Sinh Cafe open-tour buses set down and depart from either of their two offices at 2 Hung Vuong (tel 054 822121), and at 7 Nguyen Tri Phuong, next to the Thuan Hoa Hotel (tel 054 845022).
Onward bus tickets, tours, internet access and information are available here. Kim Travel open-tour buses operate from Queen Cafe 3, 8 Hung Vuong (tel 054 849327). Buses bound for Laos and Savannakhet via the Lao Bao border depart daily at 6 pm, arriving the following day at 2 pm. Tickets ($18) can be purchased at Sinh Cafe.

by iwys about Lac Thien Restaurant
