Trang Tien Bridge
by Blatherwick
Trang Tien Bridge is the symbol of Hue. It spans the Perfume River right in the middle of town. Cars are not allowed on this bridge so you only see motos and cyclos. At night the bridge is lit up by coloured lights which change colour every ten seconds.
The Stele Pavilion
by SirRichard
This small pavillion houses a Stone Tablet (20 tonnes) in which Tu Duc engraved a brief autobiography, writing about some aspects of his life. Surprisingly in this kind of "official stories", he was quite modest and even recognized a few errors he made...
The stone was brough from 500 kms away, taking 4 years to bring it here.
the royal tomb of Minh Mang
by call_me_rhia
The royal tomb of Minh Mang's is one of the seven royal tombs of emperors of the Nguyen dinasty. Its construction started in September 1840, and the Emperor died in January 1841, before its construction was completed. His son, Thieu Tri, had the task of finishing it... which was only in 1843.
In this tomb, spread over a large area, there are 40 constructions.... gates, palaces, temples, pavillions and so on.. all simmetric. The tomb itself is located in a circular mound/construction at the very end... on a tiny hill, after a crescent-shaped pond.
The commplex is divided in 3 main parts: the gates, the temple area and the tomb itself. This tomb is located 12 km form Hue, on Cam Ke mount, near Bang Lang fork, on the west bank of the Perfume River. If you come by boat, you can walk there in a few minutes.
Cyclos
by SirRichard
This bicycles for passengers are a common way of transport in Hue. Though nowadays motorcycles are getting more and more popular, you can still see many cyclos around.
Being more slow and silent than motos, these vehicles are much better to have a touristic tour around the citadel.
Their fares are similar to those of the motos. Bargain in advance. U can hire them for a whole day, a tour, a few hours...
Am Phu, but pick the good one!
by Rrroel about Am Phu
A local place with some very good Hué specialities. But be careful for the location! My favorite is in Nguyen Thai Hoc. Not so far away, in Chu Van An street, there's a restaurant with a similar name catering for tour groups. Needless to say which one is the best and cheapest and most fun... Bó Nhúng Dãm, which is beef boiled in some kind of vinegar with herbs. You dip it for about 20 seconds in the boiling stock, then you put it on some rice paper, together with fresh onions and a salad, you try to make a roll of this and then you dip this roll in a peanut and a chili sauce. If you're not used to chopsticks you can make quite a mess of it, but it was really delicious!
