The Citadel
by Jimmytravel
The building of the Citadel in Hue begun in 1804, and its perimeter is 10km. This is one of the places the Americans kicked ass during the Vietnamese War (or the American War as it's called here) and got kicked. The flag in the picture is a big flag. Biiig flag.
Funeral
by muddybok
I cannot tell you much from this picture, but I sure noticed that it is a funeral. I didn’t go in and absolutely have had no clue how the funeral is being conducted.
So, this is not a tip after all.
the royal tomb of Khai Dinh
by call_me_rhia
The royal tomb of Khai Dinh (1885-1925) is the tomb I liked most, of the three I visited. Khai Dinh ruled Vietnam for 9 years, but his tomb took 11 years to complete... by then the Emperor had already been dead for six years.
Khai Dinh was a well-travelled man - he had been as far as France... so it's not a surprise to see some western elements in his tomb, together with more traditional eastern elements... and there was electricity, too...
The stone in which the tomb complex is built is very dark, so photos do not do it justice... but when you visit it, it's pure magnificence, in particular the colored glass and ceramic mosaics. The tomb is located on the slope of Chau Chu mountain (also called Chau E), 10 km from Hue. if you come by boat, you'll need to hire a mototaxi to get there, as it is quite a few kilometres away from the river.
Dragon Boat 2
by iwys
The dragon boats stop for around half an hour at each site. You will need to jump onto the river bank and then walk up to the tombs and temples. Sometimes you will have to hop on the back of a motorbike taxi.
Simple vegetarian
by leffe3 about Dong Tam Cafe
Gorgeous little vegetarian cafe found in the same street as the hotel we were staying in (D De Loi). Nothing more than a covered terrace of a colonnial building - open all 4 sides, but still exudes atmosphere and charm - and the food is good and incredibly cheap! There's only about 6 things to chose from!
