Realm Hotel

The Realm Hotel is the 'newest' hotel in Canberra... It's on National Circuit close to Parliament House. The staff are very friendly, the amenities and facilities are fantastic!!

Unique Quality: Our room (a Realm Suite) had a dishwasher (!!!), full sized fridge, bath & shower, king sized bed, balcony, seperate bedroom, two flat screen TV's and heaps of space! The best thing it had was the block out curtains and what seemed to be very good sound proofing all round!! :)

There's also a lap pool, a massive & well stocked gym, lifts, under cover secure parking and 24 hour room service.

here is the link to the kambah Inn - kambah seems to be 19 k from the city centre

Re: accomodation

otherwise i would suggest the City Walk - which is right in the centre and close to the bus station so you can take a bus where you want to go

and are not stuck out in kambah all the time

the city walk - where i have stayed - was basic - and cheap

Re: accomodation

oh damn - excuse language - i just googled and the city walk is closed

I have no accommodation tip but wanted to give you the link to public transportation:

http://www.action.act.gov.au/default.html

In the routes and timetables section you can see that there are two or three routes from the city centre to Kambah, and the trip takes about 45 minutes.

Just by googling I found the Kambah Inn:

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=de&cr=countryAU&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=accommodation&near=Kambah+ACT&fb=1&view=text&latlng=15137346866934333972

... and this B&B:

I can only agree that Canberra is rather a safe place, I walked around there alone at any time of the night.

As someone who used to live in Learmonth Drive - I can confirm that the others have been correct - Edwil House is a bed and breakfast in walking distance - good place for a lone woman to stay. The people here will be helpful to know how to get around. Kambah Inn is a bit cheap - connected to a bar and liquor shop - with a bus stop, little shopping centre. About 3 kms - 3 - 5 mins car ride from Learmonth. The nearest motel is the Country Comfort Greenway. about 1 or 2 kms from Learmonth

Lizard (2)

by Kate-Me

By moving very slowly and carefully, I was able to creep right up to the lizard to get a closer photo.
He just stared (or glared) at me and allowed me to get to within about a metre of him before he decided to turn tail and run under a little bridge nearby at the edge of the rockery.

In this photo you can see how even more handsome he looks (not all of them had the green on their backs - perhaps it's a distinguishing characteristic between males & females or adults and juveniles)
This lizard was about 50 cms in length, if I remember correctly.

Just a Jump to the left !

by majicsilverrose

There are many, many bike tracks and running tracks in and around Canberra, they are shared with foot traffic too. The custom in Canberra is for bikes comming up behind people walkling or slower moving traffic than themselves to call out "WAY !" to let you know they are about to overtake, the pedestrian is expected to move to the left, fairly quickly !

Remember now your expected to jump to the LEFT. If you from a country that drives on the right hand side of the road your instinct will probably be to jump to the right, this will get you into a heap of trouble. Most bike riders are fairly good natured in my experience, but you never know.
