Party It Up in Alice at Toddy's
If you're young, single, and want to drink dance and party, then this is the place for you.
The bar serves up $8 jugs of beer and $10 jugs of snakebite (just close your eyes and drink it) and cheap snacks. They sometimes get local bands to do some live music and it's a great roaring time for everyone involved.
This is the most likely place to stay in order to get no sleep at all. Hooking up with the other backpackers is seemingly encouraged by the staff who certainly don't mind having a go of it themselves.
It's the kind of place you'd love or hate based on your tastes - if what I've said above sounds like a good time, I'll see you there!

All you can eat BBQ
AU£17 per night for a 6 bed room, not bad. Slightly out of town but it has a pool, a bar, large TV room, cheap internet access, free breakfasts but this is served stupidly early (at 7am!!!) so we missed it.
You can book all the tours you'll ever need through reception and I think they do free airport pick up, they definately do free city pickups. We had a great All You Can Eat BBQ for AU$8, but you get $3 back once you've done your washing up and given your plates/cutlery in.
You can also get motel style accommodation too.

good food and bar
Stayed here for two days. The rooms are simple but cheap.
the atmosphere is good and the food was great.
Unique Quality: It's got a small pool. Everynight there is an all you can eat fest for a very reasanable price.
A television room to chill, internet; And a bar. (there was a drinking night.)
At one moment we could do a gamble for 1 dollar. We had to guess what was in the tin.
Good fun.

Comfortable, Clean, and Affordable
I was fairly impressed with this Backpacker's hostel. I almost exclusively stayed at backpacker's places, youth hostels, and other budget accom when I was in Australia. This place doesn't fail to impress. It is clean and comfortable, it's reasonably priced, and it's close to town.
The service was great. The people were so nice and friendly. There's plenty of room in the hostel to hang out with people or to get away and be by yourself.
You have a selection of types of rooms. Dorms start at about A$15 a night. You can also get a motel type of room for about A$60 or a family room for about $65.
Unique Quality: Beyond the typical youth hostel or backpackers type of amenities (laundry, kitchen, luggage storage, tv room, etc), there are lots of extras here: a pool, free shuttle, pool table, a bar, dinners, and more.
Also, when I was there, they offered a free night accom if you booked certain tours through them. Nothing better than a free night accom when you're on a budget - and if you're going a tour anyway, it's a double bonus!!
