 | | | | Holiday Inn Darwin (used to be Centra): Comfy, well located | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Location/Exterior: The HI Darwin is a round tower, so your view will vary from ocean to town depending on where you are located . Located adjacent a park which sits on a cliff overlooking the alligator infested ocean water, it is a 2 minute walk to excellent restaurants serving local fare (alligator, kangaroo, etc) and the main party zone a pleasant 10 minute stroll. Rooms: The rooms are fairly standard. The bathroom was aside the main door, fairly small with sink, toilet and shower/tub combo. Sufficient towels were supplied daily, including enough for daily trips to the pool. The rooms were always cleaned to a good standard. The bed and bedding were comfortable (queen), and a small desk was provided, along with 2 chairs and a dresser. The TV was approx 19” with limited channels (approx 16-18) and on-demand movies. Overall the furnishings were adequate but somewhat dated. There was a small buffet of sorts set up between the bathroom entrance and bed area. This was handy and served as a kitchenette during my extended stay. My main beef with the room was the presence of a small army of ants. They would arrive for a daily parade from the corner of the bathroom, over the buffet and up the wall. Eventually after about a week we came to an agreement of sorts and as they appeared to be using my room only as a thoroughfare enroute to bigger things, and not as a stopping point I let them be. That being said – word to the wise for those not as adaptable to l’il critters. Amenities & Restaurants: The bar and restaurant on the main floor look onto the outdoor salt-water pool. They are small but the bar served a decent selection of reasonably priced beer. I only ate a sandwich or 2 in the restaurant but they were all good and quite cheap (about 6$ US per). The pool itself was awesome, as would any cool water be in hot sunny climates. The water was quite warm, surrounded by palm trees. A night swim is great as the air cools a bit, but the water warm, and lit from inside giving a peaceful glow under the stars.
Friendly staff, good pool area, decent views if you're on the right side of hotel.
