The Darwin Airport Resort is about 350m from Darwin International Airport but a 20 minute drive from town. There are lush tropical and all the amenities you would expect from an international 5 star resort. There's a pool spa, gym, bar and a good restaurant. Accommodation is in bigger than average rooms and some are self contained with kitchenette. Most rooms have wide screen plasma tv's as well.

Saville Park Suites Darwin: Family accommodation near CBD   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Saville Park Suites are situated on The Esplanade near the CBD and they overlook Darwin Harbour to the Arafura sea. There are one, two and three bedroom apartments with large private balconies with either sea or CBD views. It has a licensed restaurant & bar and an outdoor swimming pool with spa.

Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchenette complete with oven, microwave, fridge, dish washer and all dinnerware with cutlery. It's ideal for families as you don't need to spend a small fortune on restaurant meals if you choose to self cater.

    Many, many, many: Backpackers
  • Tip Rating:
  • As I was admiring the CBD view from my Saville Suite Apartment balcony I noticed three backpackers accommodation within throwing distance so I thought I'd add this as a tip. Although I haven't stayed at any of these, they seemed very busy with backpackers from all over the world. I've heard that Chilli's is one of the more popular. There are heaps of backpackers around Darwin so it's best you do some due diligence on the internet.

Holiday Inn Darwin (used to be Centra): Comfy, well located
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Location/Exterior: The HI Darwin is a round tower, so your view will vary from ocean to town depending on where you are located . Located adjacent a park which sits on a cliff overlooking the alligator infested ocean water, it is a 2 minute walk to excellent restaurants serving local fare (alligator, kangaroo, etc) and the main party zone a pleasant 10 minute stroll. Rooms: The rooms are fairly standard. The bathroom was aside the main door, fairly small with sink, toilet and shower/tub combo. Sufficient towels were supplied daily, including enough for daily trips to the pool. The rooms were always cleaned to a good standard. The bed and bedding were comfortable (queen), and a small desk was provided, along with 2 chairs and a dresser. The TV was approx 19” with limited channels (approx 16-18) and on-demand movies. Overall the furnishings were adequate but somewhat dated. There was a small buffet of sorts set up between the bathroom entrance and bed area. This was handy and served as a kitchenette during my extended stay. My main beef with the room was the presence of a small army of ants. They would arrive for a daily parade from the corner of the bathroom, over the buffet and up the wall. Eventually after about a week we came to an agreement of sorts and as they appeared to be using my room only as a thoroughfare enroute to bigger things, and not as a stopping point I let them be. That being said – word to the wise for those not as adaptable to l’il critters. Amenities & Restaurants: The bar and restaurant on the main floor look onto the outdoor salt-water pool. They are small but the bar served a decent selection of reasonably priced beer. I only ate a sandwich or 2 in the restaurant but they were all good and quite cheap (about 6$ US per). The pool itself was awesome, as would any cool water be in hot sunny climates. The water was quite warm, surrounded by palm trees. A night swim is great as the air cools a bit, but the water warm, and lit from inside giving a peaceful glow under the stars.

Friendly staff, good pool area, decent views if you're on the right side of hotel.

    Chilli's Backpackers: Cheap as Chilli's
  • Tip Rating:
  • I didn't stay here, but it is one of the most well known for backpackers and is located centrally in the city with a great atmosphere and great for any young travellers needs. Cheap, affordable and you cant go wrong if with this location. Dorms start from $18 Aussie bucks a night and Doubles and twins from $50.

Has a balcony/common room, Spa & Sundeck, T.V rooms, Travel Desk, Large Kitchen, Free lockers,Linen, internet and airport Shuttle bus. Centrally located it is the most convenient of all the backpackers in Darwin City.

  • I've stayed in the Asti many times and have been very pleased with the accommodation.

There's a good sized swimming pool, restaurant on premises and it's within easy walking distance from the city. But it's very quiet, unlike some of the more central places.

Mirambeena Resort Darwin: Very bad choice for accommodation   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I must say I only ever stayed once but found the staff arrogant, ignorant and insolent. In front of a lobby of guests they accused me of having broken the windows in my room. I denied this and they virtually called me a liar. They wouldn't let me book out until it had been settled. I went back into the room with them and they weren't able to produce any broken windows, nor any other damage. The abusive staff then started to disappear as if by magic. I demanded to see the manager but he was too busy.

    Insolent staff

    CHILLI'S BACKPACKERS: Chilli's Backpackers
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The hostels in Darwin are definitely more expensive than elsewhere in Australia (save for that monopoly in Yulara). For the same price, you get considerably less amenities. Amenities wise, the hostel has an Internet shop, a kitchen and a laundrette. But the service at reception and the tour desk can be rather indifferent which seems to be dependent on how happy the guy or gal manning the stations are. That rooms are rather spartan and in mine, I had a dead cockroach for company. For a place calling itself Chilli's Backpackers, it ain't that hot.

The hostel has a VERY POPULAR jacuzzi pool at the back, forever packed with guys and girls having fun under the sun....and moon! And 24-hours Coles is next door and Mitchell Street has plenty of restaurants and cafes!
