The lobby is a massive 3 story cavern. Reception was prompt, but a pity it took three attempts before they were able to get my reservation right (maybe it was their first day on the job). However that being said the staff were very friendly and polite
The corridors in the building probably need a fresh coat of paint (even the non-smoking floors), and carpets look filthy. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable (although some may find them a little soft). A small very 1980's looking bathroom is functional, but the plumbing needs to be maintained as dripping taps get annoying very quickly. The toiletries provided are quality Red Earth products. Tea and coffee making facilities are convenient, and you can catch up on the news with limited cable TV.
The fitness room is dated and the equipment needs to be oiled. The outdoor pool is pleasant but crowded with children.
The in house restaurant is modern and hip, but I'd suggest getting room servce is fast and tastes pretty good (for room service). The lobby bar has small wine list, and the staff are knowledgable and friendly. Being on Mitchel street the hotel is close to the nightlife scene of Darwin - and you won't even have to worry about a taxi.
A good solid hotel, probably not up to the same standard as other Crowne Plazas but still one the better choices Darwin has to offer.
