A Darwin Sunset View of Our Own
Just the best position for us. Right on the esplanade for the front entrance and straight through the lobby to Mitchell Street where all the coffee shops and eating places are located...no newspaper shop for David though and he was like a bear with a sore head in Northern territory...papers come in the afternoon!
And if you want the airport shuttle it is at your backdoor as is the main stop for tour buses.
We arrived on the Ghan and luggage is brought into town and left...guess where...Mantra on the Esplanade. (There is another Mantra but this is the better location)
Ok a very pleasant lobby...a 'eurogobbler' internet for guests (a big minus)...bar and dining room. Meals good but the barramundi for dinner was not a patch on our Mitchell St cafe/restaurant.
There is no actual concierge desk but tours can be organized 6 days a week at the Gift shop.
Unique Quality: Not unique in the true meaning of the word but for me this was the first time we had a washing machine and dryer. Now I am not turned on by household equipment but in Darwin it was quite warm for the end of winter in my opinion, and the need for fresh clothes was paramount.
I find it difficult to advise on price. There are specials often available ...different grades of rooms...group bookings.
But this is an upmarket hotel and we had an apartment...so this was the most expensive accommodation on our round trip. But I would go back.

The Best in Town.
The Saville is located on the Esplanade overlooking the Arafure Sea, which also backs onto the main shopping drag of Darwin. Therefore, the hotel is in a prime spot, which would cater for all travelers who wish to have a little luxury whilst exploring the outback.
Our suite 506 was a one-bedroom apartment, which had lovely harbour views and captured beautiful evening sunsets. The apartment consisted of an open plan setting with a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable lounge room with sliding doors opening onto a good size balcony.
The bedroom was again comfortable with a queen size bed and an ensuite. Toiletries generously supplied with a laundry attached to the bathroom.
The hotel offered room service, restaurant, beauty salon (which cannot be charged to the hotel) excellent swimming pool, security parking and conference facilities. However, parking was $10.00 a day although you can park outside on the street free.
Breakfast was different as they offered a complete variety of hot foods, which I have not seen for sometime, for example mince stew…!
To me, the Saville is probably the best in town for location and facilities. In addition, you have the added advantage of having an apartment rather than just an average hotel size room.
Tip> DO NOT take back rooms as they look into the bus depot and car park. The best rooms to request are DIRECT harbour views and be careful not to get side views….
Darwin is changing and there is heaps of development happening, so this review will no doubt be redundant in a few years, as other hotels companies will move into the district…

Family accommodation near CBD
The Saville Park Suites are situated on The Esplanade near the CBD and they overlook Darwin Harbour to the Arafura sea.
There are one, two and three bedroom apartments with large private balconies with either sea or CBD views.
It has a licensed restaurant & bar and an outdoor swimming pool with spa.
Unique Quality: Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchenette complete with oven, microwave, fridge, dish washer and all dinnerware with cutlery.
It's ideal for families as you don't need to spend a small fortune on restaurant meals if you choose to self cater.

not too sure what you are calling budget but you could try the following - all 2-3 star: Palms City Resort, Saville Park Suites Darwin, Luma Luma Holiday Apartments.

Palms City Resort and Saville Park Suites Darwin are fairly pricey. Also July is in the peak tourist season. Try www.wotif.com/ and www.tourismtopend.com.au/.
