ONE BIG MONOPOLY

The entire town of Yulara was borned out to support the great tourist attractions that are Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Yulara is Ayers Rock Resort and vice versa. The entire resort-plex is made up of various types of accommodation, ranging from campling grounds, hostels to the most posh hotel you can find in a desert. It's a monopoly so prices would be more exhorbitant that you would imagined. There are free shuttle buses connecting the various types of lodging, all ending up in the middle of "town" when restaurants, souvenir shops and grocery shops all reside. I stayed at the Outback Pioneer Lodge within the resort which is catered for hostelites. You can share dorms (beds from A$40 a night onwards) or get your own private rooms (with and without ensuite) from A$154 onwards. Quite a "steal"!

Unique Quality: The view, the view, the view! Enough to wipe out your grievances on that obscene amount of money spent on lodging.

Nice base camp

Quite a nice place to stay. Rooms were quite basic but adequate considering it's in the middle of the desert. Nice bar and communal restaurant. Our room had bunk beds and nice shower and toilet.

Unique Quality: On the complex there are a few restaurants, cafes, bars and a supermarket. Our room had a large fridge and tea making facilities. Every night there's an Outback BBQ where you can sit down and swap stories with other guests.

Expensive Oasis

I think Voyages owns most of Ayers Rock - that would explain the hotel prices. I think the only bed under $100 is at the hostel (which I heard wasn't so great).
Outback Pioneer was really nice - not worth the $240 price tag in other cities, but there's not much choice in all of Ayers Rock.

Unique Quality: It's the cheapest of the hotels at Ayers Rock and is the furthest away from the main part of town. There is the free shuttle which runs about every 15 minutes.

Service was really good here. And there's a cute bar with live entertainment at night - wish I'd stayed longer to take advantage of it.

Campground at Ayers Rock

by Lauderdale0325

Is there a place to rent tents, ground rolls, etc for the campground at Ayers Rock?

Thanks...

HI!

You may camp in the campground within Ayers Rock Resort:
http://www.ayersrockresort.com.au/arrcamp/

I think unless you're traveling with a tour group, it may not be possible to camp within the grounds near Ayers Rock since the area is sacred....but I may be wrong.

The camp ground is at the Uluru village , it's not at the rock itself. This area is closed after 6pm.
This question has been asked before and I am sure you can't hire stuff for camping.
We stayed at the Outback Pioneer Hotel/backpackers place. They have dorm type rooms, linen blanketd If you need them) are supplied.
