This peaceful farmstay retreat in Kurrajong Heights is set on 80 acres bordering the Wollemi National Park. They have 8 self-contained cedar cottages (some with private spa) and 2 refurbished train carriages, each accomodating up to 5 people. One cabin is wheelchair friendly.
We booked the train carriage, which was an old "red rattler" Sydney train built in the 1920's. How they moved it here, we wondered...
We had the whole train carriage to ourselves! It had everything - a seperate queen bedroom, full kitchen, bathroom and huge living area (the main part of the carriage) that had a dining room, lounge, TV, DVD player, futon and another single bed. A huge breakfast hamper had been left in the fridge, which contained bacon, fresh farm eggs, sausages, tomatos, mushrooms, bread, jams, cereals, orange juice, tea, coffee, biscuits & milk. All that we need to bring was a bottle of champagne. All bed linen etc. provided, plus fans, heating & aircon.
It is also a working alpaca farm. You can wander around and see the alpacas, though they are rather shy creatures, go for bushwalks, play tennis or have a swim in their indoor heated pool. They also have a common room with pool table, open fire and internet access.
For the whole railway carriage, we paid A$205 per night for 3 people ($175 for 2 plus $30 per extra person). The cabins are a little more, but have log fires, which would be nice if visiting in winter.
Sleeping on a train. Very different. The peace & quiet was lovely.
