Accommodation in Byron Bay
by travelpedro
Hi
I will be in Byron Bay with two mates in December (probably 25th to 28th) and i am looking for advice as to where to stop.
There does not appear to be any hostels, but am i looking on the wrong site (hostels.com)?
I would appreciate any recommendations? doesn't have to be posh, just looking to have a laugh and a good time
Thanks

I stayed once in the youth hostel.
Two years ago I was there over New years and it was very busy. Reservations defently needed. We campt for 50$ which we thought was really crazy....

Sorry I don't have any recommendations on where to stay, but I can tell you this - book as soon as you can, wherever you can.
Byron Bay fills up 100% and things get very pricey...so get the best deal you can and book it!
Happy travels

Travel Tips for Byron Bay
You must visit the lighthouse at Byron Bay
by unravelau
As I said, I didn't get up close and personal with the lighthouse on this occasion but I can show you how close to this most easterly point of Australia you are, when you visit the main beach.
The beach area is also ideal for the lunch stop-over. The surf club has toilet facilities, and the promenade boasts of a nice playground for children.
Dine At The RSL Club
by Mikebb about RSL Club
The Returned Services Clubs can be found in most New South Wales towns and provide good meals at reasonable prices. Usually there are several daily specials under AU$10, whilst there are the usual steaks and fish cooked to order, roast dinners, pasta dishes etc etc. We dined here one night and had a good meal for approx AU$16 each, not fine dining but good food and plenty of it. Full bar facilities are available and for the gamblers there are plenty of slot machines.
The lighthouse
by mario_spring_83
This nice white lighthouse is easy to reach from the center of Byron Bay even by bycicle.
The lighthouse is situated on the most easterly point of the Australian mainland and from here you can have a wonderful view over the ocean especially at sunrise when the view is breathtaking
Brunswick Heads
by leffe3
About 20kms north of Byron is Brunswick Heads, a small town built at the mouth of the Brunswick River. Spread out, it is almost exclusively set up to serve a very low-key tourist industry - little more than a few small hotels, a few cafes and a large caravan and campsite.
It's a delightful little spot, with, on the one hand spectacular ocean beaches (7kms running towards Byron) as well as safe river beaches only minutes from the crashing ocean. There's also a small but cute marina and a lovely backdrop of low-lying mountains.
AUSTRALIA'S BEAUTIFUL BEACH TOWNS

"Byron Bay the most easterly point of Australia"
Byron Bay has the reputation of being the most easterly point of Australia. Well at least the lighthouse point is. Although I have lived and worked in the general area for most of my adult life and passed close by on the Pacific Highway, up until a recent trip to The Gold Coast and Surfer's Paradise Queensland, I hadn't ever been to the beach, or the shopping centre.
This oversight was remedied on my recent trip and as my photos surface I will be writing a bit about this unique area.
"This map from the Complete Australian Road Atlas"
The map shows Byron Bay near the top of the page scan, while Coffs Harbour is near the bottom. I just wanted to give you an idea of where I live in relation to this popular place.
If you click on any photos apart from the main one, they will all enlarge to give a better view.
So as the crow flies Byron Bay is not all that far away but it takes care of about 3 hours when road travelling with a young family.
Extremely pretty countryside all the way here although the highway doesn't always follow the coast. Most beaches along the way can be accessed by road and usually have good signposting.
"Byron Bay Lighthouse"
This was as close as I got on this occasion, but next time (which shouldn't be too far away time wise) I will get some close ups for you.
