Room needed for Vincent
by boyofsummer
Hello everybody,
I am Vincent from Hungary, and I am planning to move to Byron Bay for a couple of months from late Jan/early Feb 2010.
I am looking for a room, flat to share, any affordable long term accomodation!
I studied landscape architecture in Hungary, currently work as a journalist and love to sing/play guitar, love nature, have an interest in spirituality, massage, etc. I'm 24 and an Australian citizen. I also would like to know whether there is any opportunity for employment this time of year (summer-autumn). I am quite flexible but would be happy to work in some yoga/spirituality/massage institute or at any national parks in the area etc.
Thanks for help!!
Vincent

It is very hard to find accommodation in this area, it's the time when all are holidaying in Aussie Land.
I would suggest that you stry and book into a backpacker place for a week or so and then go from there. Here you will find out good info about employment etc.
You really have to be there to jump into some work, as it will be casual, once you are there you and can walk around and see what you can find.
Have a great holiday...

Travel Tips for Byron Bay
General Atmosphere
by Psycho_Smurf
This place has a really laid-back feel about it. Buskers every 50 metres or so, playing their tunes in hope of your spare change. Very tourist like - no pushbike helmets in site, people drinking alcohol on the main beach, people sleeping under trees, topless folk and their jubilant capering along the beach. Also, more hippies and unemployed people than I have ever seen in my life. Having dinner at The Beach Hotel! The meal was great, well priced, and they even had XXXX, which is not the easiest beer to find once you leave Queensland...
Nimbin Day Trip !!!
by grantravel
What a unique place Nimbin is, nestled in the mountains, just 25 mins drive inland from Byron Bay. I have been to Nimbin on a few occasions over the years.
To alot of people Nimbin can be quite confronting, with people of all ages trying to sell you weed, but you have to try and look past that to see this towns true qualities and beauty.
If you can manage to stay for a look around, you will witness street theatre at times resembling the middle ages, a shopping strip which is has a very colourful range of stores from the regular through to arts, crafts, gifts, galleries and organics and there are several cafes and restaurants. The eccentric Nimbin Museum is not to be missed, either.
Nimbin is surrounded by world heritage National Parks with the beautiful and dramatic Nimbin Rocks just outside of town.
Nimbin is worth stopping off and seeing, at least just once in your life...
Major Events:
Community Markets - 3rd Sunday of each month
Nimbin School of Arts Autumn Festival - April
Mardi Grass - May
Nimbin Spring Arts Festival - October
Nimbin Agricultural Show - September
Walk Beautiful Byron Bay Beach
by Mikebb
I went for an early morning walk on the beach but experienced some unexpected rough weather which revealed a different aspect to the normal tourist expectation. There had been a storm during the night and I caught the tail end, dark sky, squalls and a rough sea. However I enjoyed my walk on the beachfront and remembered a previous walk several years earlier when the sun shone.
Byron Bay hinterland

Drive a few kilometres inland from Byron beyond the Pacific Highway to get a feel for the farmland and rolling hills environs. It's a heady mix of green pastures but at the same time views from the surrounding low lying hills will give you a view of the sea and highlight the drought the area is facing (there may be a lot of green around but look a little more closely...). Particular pictures is near Coorabell, a couple of kms from the small town of Bangalow and only a few kms from Byron.
BYRON BAY
by ValbyDK
I don’t know much about Byron Bay, as I only had a few hours stop in the city back in October 2006.
However, the city seemed to have a nice and laid-back atmosphere. We had lunch in the city centre, and went for a long walk to Cape Byron Lighthouse. A really beautiful walk, we passed several lookouts with amazing views of the ocean – and we also passed the most easterly point of the Australian mainland.
