I believe that many tours that are taking people to Nimbin stop here but at the top of the waterfalls. Me and my travel companions hiked to the bottom instead. A nice little hike through bushes and ferns... make shure to check your legs afterwards!
theres a small town a short distance from byron bay called Nimbin. its known as the amsterdam of austrailia. its a tiny place with bizaarely decorated buildings and a crazy little museum. you can buy 'special' (you know wot i mean!) cookies and all sorts of stuff. its not legal but kind of accepted.
on the bus ride there he'll fill you in on how nimbin came about and on the way back stops at some pretty waterfalls and stuff to allow you to enjoy some of your purchases! dont eat all your cookies at once though! theyre stronger than u might think!
Byron Bay has also a geografic coriousity: it is the most easterly point of the australian mainland. The exact place is just few steps from the white lighthouse and, though it could seem a very touristic thing, it's nice to go there and looking at the Pacific Ocean as a new world who begins from you.

Virtually every road you drive has views to die for! So it must be very special if a particular route is highlighted as a scenic route on the local tourist maps. Perhaps the most spectacular we drove along was the Old Pacific Highway from Murwillumbah in the north to Byron. (There's a new section of the Pacific Highway that is not shown on all maps). Every corner you turned there were wonderful views to be had. Just south of Murwillumbah itself were great views of Mount Warning.
Byron Bay has to be one of my favourite spots on the East coast of Australia. Its really chilled out and theres still a hint of the hippy era about it. People are so easy going in this place and so down to earth that its hard not to like them.
Wattago's beach and the wreck are great places if you like to surf. If you're just beginning then there are always surf classes going on at the main beach where you can learn in a really safer environment.
The lighthouse at Byron is the most eastern point of Australia and really takes your breath away. If you get there at the right time of year, you might even be lucky enough to catch some of the crazy paragliders.
Nightlife is pretty good in this backpackers town. Places like the Cheeky Monkeys are always busy with locals and travellors alike. They even dance on the tables which is cool.
Oh and don't forget a trip to Nimbin - it'll shock you but you have to do it.
