Blue Iguana: Great deal on the beach

In 2000 I stayed a great little beach house (The Blue Iguana) in Byron Bay. It's across the street from the beach and next door to the Ocean Beach Hotel (I think that's the name, it's the big one). The Blue Iguana is broken up into 3-4 seperate rooms that each have different sleeping configurations. My room had 2 bunk beds which was perfect for our group of 4. The cost was about $20 per night (I'm sure it's more expensive now) which was an amazing deal. There is a shared kitchen and living room and a great little deck out back where visitors can share travel stories. The bathroom is accessed through the backyard so it's nothing special, but for this price and location the place can't be beat.

The location of The Blue Iguana is perfect...right across from the beach and down the street from the main street of Byron. It's much smaller than the big hostals and offers a nice cozy retreat for budget travelers.

Byron Bay Surf Club Hotel: Best kept secret I think.

I am trying to find out about this accommodation without luck so far.

You could not have a better position for your holiday accommodation than this because it is right on the beach.

Aquarius Backpackers Motel: Resort for Budget travellers.

Slap bang in the centre of town, but just a couple of blocks to retain some peace from the heart of it this is a good choice to stay for the budget minded traveller who wants a little comfort.

Kitchenett in each dorm and loads of space. Great bar atmosphere in the evenings.

Belongil Beachouse: Paradise

This hostel is just outside of Byron Bay, so you're away from all the traffic and tourists. I was lucky, as I met some people on the bus over that had booked there. All the dorms were full, so they got a cottage for the same price and they asked me to go with them. amazing, sleeping in a good bed, having a bathroom and two televisions. You can get boogie boards and bicycles for free from the Beachhouse and you're close to Belongil Beach. I actually spend a night on the beach, and that was really cool too.

Pool, BBQ, Tv room, kitchen, internet, large gardens, laundry and volleyball court.

Outrigger at Salt: A bit north of Byron - Kingscliff

We stayed at the new Outrigger at Salt Resort. Salt is a new development just South of the town of Kingscliff, a little north of Byron Bay. It is a very tastefully done development, being only 3 stories and is very close to the surf beach at Kingscliff.

the resort has all the facilities you would want with a choice of hotel style rooms or self contained apartments. We stayed in a two-bedroom apartment that consisted of a one bedroom apartment interconnecting with a hotel room. It was very well equipped. Full kitchen with dishwasher full stove and cooktop, spa bath in the main room and full bath in the second room, airconditioned and a generous balcony with ocean views.

The resort has a beautifully landscaped pool and a small gymnasium. A nice stay for a bit of luxury but not the best bet if you particularly wanted to explore Byron Bay (exclusively). A very good spot if you had plans to visit 'greater Byron' including the hinterland towns of Mullumbimby of Mount Warning or even the Gold Coast (which as probably as close as Byron.)

Belongil Beach House: Great Atmosphere

Great laid back atmosphere, the staff are friendly enough and the rooms are clean and tidy. I had a quick look in the more expensive rooms and they are really nice. I stayed in a 6 bed dorm and it was great it’s a little out of the centre of town so its nice and easy get a good nights sleep. It has all standard features for a hostel and I found most of the people there to be friendly. Made some new friends that I will try and keep in contact with. I recommend you stay here if you are looking to experience the Byron Bay lifestyle.

Byron Bay Beach Resort: Anyone for tennis?

This is a beautiful resort some kilometers from where things happen. However on this site you have a nine hole golf course, two tennis courts, two pools, an excellent beach and lovely staff.
You can also catch the bus into town every hour or walk the beach for two kilometers.
We stayed in an old cabin with private facilities - 95 AUD per night. A bit worn, but still cosy and an excellent atomsphere. And while you're here playing golf or tennis the wallabys will come and look at you...
Good for all kinds of travellers, but be aware that it's not an hotel. They only change linens once or twice a week.

Plethora of camping/caravan parks in Byron: Camping in Byron

Like any kind of accommodation in Byron, campsites and cabins are very much in demand, particularly during school holidays, Summer and Byron Bay music festival. So, you are best to book first, even if it's just a couple of days in advance.

There are quite a few options for camping, tourist parks in and around Byron. There are two parks in particular that are at opposite ends of the main beach.

You can find all your options at http://www.byronbayonline.com.au/index_byron_bay.html

We hitched a tent and stayed at First Sun Caravan Park. Good shower & cooking facilities, good location, a short walk to the town centre and just a hop to the beach!

washing machine, shared toilets, baby bath, camp kitchen, bbq, ice. Note: No pets

J's Bay Hostel: beautiful hostel, good location

This is kind of your typical hostel - fun, clean, cheap. There's a pool, a big kitchen, and even barbecue facilities! They are close to the center of town, but they also run free shuttles around town

They are only minutes away from the beach! That was great. They are also really close to shops and the downtown area. The courtyard around the pool is beautiful, and there are balconies on some of the rooms, too.

Byron Bay Van Village: Byron's Best Campground !

We stayed here in our caravan over the 'Splendour in the Grass' festival weekend. It was ideally located accross the road from the festival, just far enough away from the loud all-nighters in the festival accomodation. The caravan park was full, so it was not the best time to stay there if you wanted a relaxing weekend, but that's not why we were there.

Located approximately 15 minutes walk from the town and beaches of Byron Bay, and set amongst tropical gardens, lakes and wildlife, Byron Bay Van Village would be the perfect holiday retreat. Make sure you check that there is no events on when you stay there, unless you are going there for that reason, like we did.

The Village offers a wide range of 1 or 2 bedroom fully self contained cabins, as well as tree shaded tent and powered sites and ensuite sites.

Facilities include a swimming pool and tennis court for guests enjoyment and free boogie board hire.

Aquarius Bacpackers: Aquarius Backpackers

Aquarius Backpackers is an excellent hostel...walking distance from the bus station. It is not very clean and there are 8 people in the same room...but, its 1 big party because each room houses 8 people. There is a big dinings area in the centre with a bar. Everyone hangs out there and meets up in the night before going out to party. There is a guy who comes to play there everynight. He sings very well....

Central, Next to the beach, Pool, cheap, Restaurant, Travel Agency, Internet, Friendly crew

Aquarius Backpackers Hostel: Great Hostel in Byron

This is a great hostel. They provide free pickup from the bus or train station, and gave me a quick tour around town after pickup. The staff are all very nice and helpful. The hostel is very lively, with nightly activities going on, BBQ's, trivia nights etc. The hotel offers free use of body boards and has a travel agent on site to help plan the rest of your trip, or book some exciting things to do while in Byron. The hostel is only a short 5 min walk to the beach, and to the main shops. Make sure you book ahead, especially in the summer on the weekends, because this place will be filled.

The hostel has a bar and restaurant on site. Guests can get a coupon for $5 pancakes all you can eat. (or try the apricot french toast it is amazing). There is a pool available at the hostel as well, but with the ocean so close...do you really need it? There is also kitchen facilities and a tv/movie room. Internet is available here as well, for a charge.

byron bay bunkhouse: free pancakes!!

i dont know why i have such great memories of this place. it might just have been because i loved byron bay altogether, but i remember a really nice vibe. they had mixed dorm rooms, i think there were 8 of us in one room, guys and girls, which made it quite sociable straight away. and then a big terrace where there always seemed to be people having a drink, playing cards, whatever. i know alot of what makes a trip good is the people you meet along the way, and i met some good people here.

i dont know if thy still do it but they used to do free pancakes every morning as long as you got up in time. and even if youve had a late night theyre worth getting up for even if you go straight back to bed afterwards!! yum!!
