Travel Tips for Coffs Harbour

Valla Beach

by iandsmith

Just south of Coffs if you have a car and don't mind driving for half an hour, there's one of my favourite little spots on the northern N.S.W. coast.
Valla Beach is really more than one. There's a beach either side of the headland and, unlike Coffs Harbour, they haven't ripped down the surrounding bush (yet).
It still retains that 50's village atmosphere that represents all that people used to go up to the north coast for. Lovely sandy beaches, wonderful park just behind and a local general store where you can buy most things you'd need on a lazy holiday.
I also fondly remember being out in a 3ft swell with near perfect waves and being the only one out, but that's another story.
It's only just off the highway and, if you're looking for a swim in summer, I can highly recommend this place.
The photo is of the headland walkway (you'll have to blow it up) which is one of the lovely scenic walks on the northern N.S.W. coast.

Nambucca Heads

by iandsmith

International travellers don't come here in any great numbers but Aussies certainly do. This is a fisherman's paradise among other things and has a golf course on an island, in fact, in takes up most of the island.
It's very much like holidays used to be in the 60's and 70's which is why a lot of people like it.
There is an excellent caravan park right at the river mouth and plenty of other accommodation.
The beaches are pretty ordinary for surfing but pleasant enough for sunbaking.

The fish jump out of the water

by unravelau about The Fisherman's Co-operative

The Fisherman's Co-operative is conveniently situated where land meets water in the Coffs Harbour Marina, and where the fisherman offload their catch and stock up on fuel for the next trip.

You can buy (of course) fresh seafood of every variety here....... the left hand end of the building or you can have the cooks, cook it place it in a tray and bag and take it........either all of the way home or just to the tables and chairs on the deck or to find a spot amongst the seagulls and fishing boats. They also offer a range of fresh salads small and large. I am rather partial to the greek salad that has plenty of olives, cucumber and fetta cheese...... Fantastic. Fish and chips is my favourite because I am not partial to crustaceans or molluscs although you would be able to get the very best here. Had fish cocktails with chips (and tartare sauce) as well as a beautiful side salad .

"FISH WATCHING"

by balhannah

Make your way to the Coffs Harbour Marina & Jetty, and walk along the boardwalks over the sea. The water is very clear, and here you will see lots of different fish. If you have some bread crumbs, then, you will have a lot more fish to admire.
Entertaining for children and Adults, and its FREE!

Coffs Harbour & Surrounds

by Nicholsp02

"Coffs - Well worth a stay"

White sandy beaches without crocodiles. Beautiful coral without box jellyfish. Long summers without a cyclone season. Rainforests without monsoons. Fantastic wildlife without the mosquitos. Pristine nature, without the long hikes. Great restaurants without the big city prices. The best in accommodation without the big cities. Friendly people without the scams. Mountains (1000m) and Sea together - a rare combination on Australia's east coast. Specializing in the best seafood and fruits such as Banana, Avacado, Mango and PawPaw. This is the Coffs Harbour I love
