Travel Tips for Coffs Harbour

Sawtell

by iandsmith

I ended up in Sawtell in the Best Western Motel for two reasons: a- I had been delayed at Coffs doing a call and b- the particular motel had a special on.
One of the great advantages of this establishment is that it is within 100 metres of the sand. Though you can't actually see the beach, you can hear the surf and it's just across the road and through the scrub and you're there.
So, it's not an unpopular pastime for locals to take a morning stroll. Thus it was that I joined them and the beauty of this beach is that it's made for walking, particularly at low tide. Lots of nice firm sand and a lovely couple of beaches interspersed with headlands where you can climb and take in the view.
Early mornings are definitely my favourite time to be surfside, even back in the days when I was an avid board rider. Something about the clean atmosphere that seems to pervade the air. The crispness of the swells kissed by an offshore breeze as they crash into oblivion and dissipate into the rips. I've never ceased enjoying it.
If only you didn't have to get out of bed so early!

Ellenborough Falls - Beautiful hike!

by Jerelis

To get to Ellenborough Falls you have to drive through this fascinating landscape. The soil is rich red volcanic soil similar that found on nearby the Comboyne Plateau. The Comboyne Plateau and the adjacent Bulga Plateau are now outlying residuals of the Great Escarpment which, as a result of scarp retreat, has migrated further to the west.

After a beautiful drive through the Bulga Plateau you'll have to take the Glenwarrin Road to get to Ellenborough Falls. It's quite a beautiful hike, with lot's of beautiful nature to admire.

Sit on the deck and watch the fish swimming

by unravelau about Sheerwater Restaurant

Potterist and myself had occasion to share a mid-day meal with some friends on Friday. The suggested venue was The Sheerwater Restaurant at the Promenade Centre High Street, Coffs Harbour. Previously I had only had a coffee there (some years ago now) and I hadn't returned, until now. It had been a cold morning so I was more than happy to sit in the sun on the deck........... a little while later I was more than happy to have the canvas shades lowered sufficiently to shield from the sun but still open enough to enjoy the view.

You should see the fish here.........bream and mullet...schools as thick as those fish I saw at Sperlonga's Tiberius Cave's fishery.........just amazing. While I was getting the camera out, along came a pelican and a host of seagulls...........ah well I am a happy vegemite........it wont matter about the food at all if I have this magnificent view to enjoy.......and I am warm. I thought to have the deep sea salmon with asparagus as my friends had decided on, but at the last minute I chose the fillet steak chargrilled on a bed of asparagus, a special sauce and sliced beetroot......absolutely yummy. Went down very well with a glass of cabernet savignon (don;t worry about the spelling, you know). There were something like 10 blackboard specials for sweets but none of us could eat any more...........we were totally satisfied.

Coffee all around to finish off........

GEORGE ELLIS` HOUSE

by BerniShand

this house was built in 1922, and was the home of George Ellis and his wife, it is filled with furniture and artefacts of the time, many donated by local people
it is amazingly small, not the sort of place you would imagine a prosperous gold miner to own, but perhaps George was too busy mining to extend

Coffs Harbour

by jeroenlianne

Zondagochtend vroeg verlaten we ons hotel in Sydney.

Even lekker bakken en braden.

Maandagochtend rijden we verder richting Brisbane.
