Studying English at the English School
by Nicholsp02
If you are looking for a great place to enjoy Australia while you study English, you may want to consider the English Language School ( ELICOS ) located on the beautiful campus at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus ( CHEC ). The Language School is located inside the University and College, so you can get a lot of chances meet local students. We occassional help students who study there and are happy to spend half a day driving students around Coffs Harbour to help them understand the area and help them find a good Aussie family to enjoy homestay. Coffs Harbour is a great place to study because there are wonderful homestay families and great weather to enjoy the beaches and the mountains in time off from study. Please contact me if you are interested in learning more.
Winter Solstice for anyone?

I attended this celebration (shortest daylight longest night) at a school function last night (22/6/07) and found it quite an experience so if you are around here next year......put it in your things to do.
It was cold.....very cold.....everyone was rugged up and these beautiful child made lanterns hang along all of the verandas and made circling pathways around the grounds. Just beautiful. Have some home made soup and be entertained by the teachers and the children in a very special way.
Hosting The Duyfken.

Coffs Harbour is always happy to welcome visitors from elsewhere and while all are treated with great respect and open arms, The Duyfken, in port for a few days was given a right royal welcome last week. (Oct 2006).
You might wonder why a replica of an old seafaring ship deserved such a fuss, but when you read the story it will all become clear. The link below will take you to the official replica building site and the link on my Coffs Harbour introduction page will fill in some more of the history.
All dressed up and nowhere to go

As I passed by the marina, eyeing off the expensive merchandise gently rocking in the rippling water, I couldn't help but notice a friendly looking dog having a ball on the small beach at the eastern end of the marina.
Enveloped in a blue jacket, all he needed was a tie and he could have gone to the ball. Instead of that, he was doing his business in the sand. It was about this time that I saw a sign, one of those with a red circle and a diagonal line crossing something out. That something was a dog. The sign said "Dogs strictly forbidden". Shame dogs can't read.
On my return journey I made friends with the dog, that is, until his owner called him and he ran straight past the sign and back onto his owner's boat.

If you get the opportunity to dine or just visit the Fishermans Club you will be astounded by the most magnificent views of Coffs Jetty, Women's Island and Boambee Beach. Just as if you were sitting in your lounge room, the walls are glass 270 degrees around, although the last time I was there, there were workmen making some verandah's for smokers comfort.
