Lesbia/Gay groups in Coffs
by RachelK
Hi I'm miving to Coffs April 2005 and was wondering if there are any groups/activities in Coffs for lesbians/gay. Especially keen on outdoors stuff. Would be great to here from you.

Well this is interesting.......You say that you are moving to Coffs Harbour in April but have registered as if you are already here. Anyway, I just did a google search and turned up quite a bit of information for you............check out the following.

I hope that this is helpful for you. I don't have any personal experience with any of these groups as I am not gay, however I have heard that there is quite a substantial population here.
Carole.
Travel Tips for Coffs Harbour
Entertain the kids while you do the shopping.

Park Beach Plaza is the closest shopping area to where I live and I tend to frequent there quite a bit. For the traveller and/or holiday maker it might be handy to know that the aquajet and associated activities are situated on a portion of this large complex. Leave the teenagers for a swim, trampoline, slide into pool or rent a racing car at the Aquajet ( that seems to be full almost year around) while you stock up the fridge for the next week of holiday. I have had a couple of picnics with family and grandchildren at the aquajet and its a toss up who enjoys the entertainment most.............my kids or theirs, I mean.
Sad, sad newsflash - the aquajet is being dismantled this week to make way for more shops at the plaza - a sign of progress? Rumour has it that it is to be relocated at the zoo - approximately 14 kms north of town on the highway (1530 Pacific Highway)

A life on the ocean waves

Fishing out off Arrawarra beach is a fairly popular activity. Fortunately for me I know a local and have occasional access to his boat. Having said that there are charters out of Coffs Harbour itself (enquire at the marina) so there's always a chance of getting offshore and wetting a line.
If you are in the Arrawarra area it's fairly easy, if you're sociable, to find someone who's got a boat and is looking for someone to take out. The natives are friendly in this area.
In pic one you can see my friend John pulling his boat out of the water, pic two shows us out fishing and three shows what you might catch out there. For most charters everything is supplied so it's just a matter of bringing yourself. A word of warning though, always take some waterproof warm clothing, just in case.
Anyone for a picnic?

Just bring your scuba gear and, if you're lucky, you might just feel the tables somewhere in the murky water.
This lovely recreational park, 5 kms in from the Pacific Highway, is one of the first casualties when it floods. Described as moderate on this occasion, it does get worse.
The Big Banana
by CandS
Even if you don't go inside, drive past so you can say you have seen the 'Big Banana'... ;) There's not a whole lot to do there but it is fun to have a yummy banana split or sunday there...
There are a few things to see and do at the Big Banana - the train tours, gift shop, toboggan ride, cafe, indoor snow slope and more...
It is open 7 days a week...

We always stopped at Coffs Harbour as kids because it was half way to Queensland, we went camping there, christmas of 2000 with the big millennium meltdown pending, we thought if we are camping we will be self sufficient anyway. Coffs has a lot for kids big banana of course, movies, beach, waterslide parks etc. we stayed at Arrawarra for 2 weeks it was a lovely break.
