Life's a Party in Coffs Harbour?
by unravelau
I really don't know what the thinking was behind this so I am just choosing to say that we're indicating that we have fun here.
UPDATE
They say that the rolling stone gathers no moss--well moving icons don't either....LOL
I only noticed the other day that our joker friend has re-appeared outside our live theatre at the Jetty.....most appropriate.
Ellenborough Falls - Falling 160m to the valley!
by Jerelis
After a beautiful drive through the Bulga Plateau you'll have to take the Glenwarrin Rd to get to Ellenborough Falls. These falls are a spectacular sight as they plunge from the plateau into a vertical walled box gorge 160 metres below. We viewed the falls from a lookout near the top We reached this lookout via a good footpath which lead us to a few hundred metres to a full view of the drop. Over here we were able to watch one of the longest single drop waterfalls in the Southern Hemisphere, falling a spectacular 160m to the valley below.
There are also two other hikes to watch the beauty of Ellenborough Falls. From the lookout we've been we were able follow a moderately easy walking track which leads to another viewing platform looking back towards the falls. Quite a view! For the fitter enthusiasts, another track leads to the bottom of the falls. We didn't follow this track. Not that we were not fit, but didn't have any time left that day.
The food with a view
by unravelau about Coffs Harbour Surf Club Cafe
The restaurant is new and large by any standards. They only recently opened, in fact when I was there they were in their first week of operations. Fresh and clean comes to mind when describing the dining area and the sea side atmosphere is accentuated by the blue and white decor.
The waiting staff were very attentive and polite.
The most outstanding thing about the ambience would have to be the wonderful way that the outside is encouraged in by huge windows around three sides showing off the beautiful pacific ocean. So you can eat on the beach without either getting wet or sandy... My friend and I both chose the chicken burger with salad for a great lunchtime treat. Very tasty, of ample proportions, nicely arranged and served promptly.
I am sure that in no time at all this place will be bursting at the seams.
The dolphin show at Coffs Harbour's Oceanarium
by unravelau
There are a couple of shows each day check site for times. The dolphins do their tricks and entertain the crowd then some seals are encouraged to introduce themselves to the audience ................ they do this by kissing everone that they come up to. ( See native travelogue). Anyway it is a wonderful family show that you shouldn't miss.

"To-day I lunched at the Coffs Harbour Gardens."
I have never lunched at the cafe here and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it is. They only have a small menu but what they have is fresh and tasty.
I had a BLT on turkish bread toasted and a mugacino. Very yummy and quite reasonably priced. Next time I visit I will be taking my camera and see what winter has to offer by way of flowers in our garden.

HANSI said that he had a lovely time in Coffs Harbour....just a pity that he couldn't stay longer.

WONDERFUL INFORMATION just to hand....well a couple of days ago I was impressed to learn of this. The Australian Government has produced a National Public Toilet Map website......www.toiletmap.gov.au Quoting from the information leaflet.....'this helpful site shows the location of over 15000 toilet facilities across Australia.....' It goes on to say that the toilet locations can also be accessed from your mobile phone for the cost of a standard call. AND the toilet map also offers trip-planning functions, downloading of GPS coordinates and large maps with a zoom function. Well it looks as though you will never be short of a loo when you are here.....wish Italy had the same.

Time to look up the featuredevents list.

"Pet Porpoise Pool"
Coffs Harbour does have a porpoise pool and accommodates many animals that for one reason or another are or have been unable to live outside the confines of the park. Some, of course have been born in captivity but mostly they have come as the result of an accident ......run over by a car........orphaned through fire or other kinds of misadventure. The Centre operators do train seals and dolphins to entertain visitors twice a day (if I remember correctly) and this with the sale of various souveniers provides much of the funding required to maintain the park.

A special thought for to-day.
Be not the slave of your own past - plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep, and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience, that shall explain and overlook the old.
Ralph Waldo Emerson's wise words.
Coffs Harbour as a holiday place from my perspective has it all. I am not into mad partying and headbanging music type of entertainment, although that happens there too, but not for me. I really enjoy, a swim, a walk along the beach, fresh fish and salad to eat, friendly coffee shops (and places that make nice breakfasts)- The Foreshores Cafe for one and the Muffin Break for another. The general scenery is breathtaking, the frequent visits from dolphins and whales - amazing - and all in all the fresh air to rejuvenate the soul is plentiful. There are a range of options for accommodation needs, that would cater for anyone that you know and the proprieters usually do it in style.
