Travel Tips for Coffs Harbour
What's the point of having a spare wall......throw
by unravelau
some paint on it is the motto around here. Some take to this task like true professionals too...........don't know who did this but I think that it is great.............if anyone knows the artist.........let me know please.
If you live on a flood plain, what do you expect?
by iandsmith
I had a bit of a problem here. Wasn't sure whether to list this under Ocean/Beach or what. This is what happens when there's over 200mm of rain in 24 hours. Bellinger River floods. Often.
Golf courses, parks, paddocks, some houses and always a road with bridge or two.
This time they lost all roads in and out of the town for two days. Miraculously, despite enough wood piled into it to build 50 houses, the bridge linking the town to North Bellingen survived.
The road to Dorrigo didn't. A bad washout occured halfway up the mountain side and the road will be under repair for months.
This shot is taken about 5 kms in where I had to stop because the road was nearly two metres under water immediately ahead of me. This is a paddock (normally) at the side of the road.
Terrific Chinese Take Away Tucker
by unravelau about Chopsticks
Chopsticks just quietly and quickly goes about its business of feeding the hungry hoards in Park Beach. Situated on Park Beach Road within the Northside Shopping Centre, it offers a great range of traditional Chinese dishes to take away. You could sit within the shop or share the tables outside but I mostly just take my dish/es home. There are a number of dishes that I really enjoy but I am sure that they are all as tasty as my favourites.......I will work my way through the menu eventually.
THE BUNKER
by BerniShand
Originally a WW11 bunker this was restored and preserved and is now a cartoon gallery, this is an amazing gallery, not only is it housed in a fantastic setting but its probably the only place you hear chuckles, guffaws and outright hoots of laughter from visitors
there are historical cartoons, wartime cartoons, sporting cartoons and cartoons from the present day, and a wonderful collection of caricatures..........you are even invited to draw your own cartoon
there is a small selection of prints and greeting cards for sale, the Bunker is open daily from 10 till 4, admission is A$2 for adults and A$1 for children
Diary of a Madman
by Jerelis
"How we won't forget any details!"
“Knowledge is of two kinds. We know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information upon it.”
~ Samuel Johnson, 1775 ~
Whenever we undertake a journey to a particular country we always want to know all about the surroundings, it’s history, it’s culture, which cities to visit, which hikes to undertake, et cetera. In advance to the journey we browse over the internet to get certain information and read travel books just to make sure we won’t miss out on anything.
Once we’re travelling we like to talk to the local people about their own country, their own region and those conversations will retrieve lots of extra information about some beautiful spots to visit, the ultimate restaurant or sometimes a particular area to avoid.
Ever since we had our own personal travel site an this one at Virtual Tourist we like not only to undertake the journey, but also write about it for everyone to enjoy. Just to make sure we won’t forget the details of our journey we write is all down in a diary. We have given the dairy the name “Diary of a madman” and it contains all the information we have gathered. We like to make the diary more beautiful to glue in some pictures out of folders and also the entrance tickets to museums, National Parks, bus tickets, et cetera.
This way we’re able to tell all our friends about our travels. For Virtual Tourist we can reproduce all the information for (hopefully) solid tips with lots of good details that will help you in your travels. Besides that it’s always fun to read about a journey we took for example 7 or 8 years ago and read about what we exactly did and how we experienced it. We also have managed to keep in touch with the local people we talked to and do nourish these contacts. On this Travelogue of Virtual Tourist you can see some pages out of the Diary of a madman and have an impression on how it looks. Enjoy!
