Best Western - Coachmans Rest Motor Inn: The motel belt    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • There's a few motels bundled together on the outskirts of town on the western side and this is one of them.
All the units are ground floor and parking isn't a problem.
The motel has been here for a while but in 2003 acquired some new owners. Meals are O.K. and the staff friendly but, if you're looking for five star accommodation you won't find it here or, for that matter, anywhere else in Coonabarabran. It's more your comfortable 3-4 star with a few extra T.V. channels, tea and coffee making facilities but nothing in the minibar.

Flag Inn Amber Court: Coming in    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • If you're coming in to town from the eastern end, as I do, this is one of the first motels you see. It's at the opposite end of town to the Best Western one.
It also has all gorund floor accommodation, satisfactory meals, nice staff etc.

Its name derives from the fact that it's set amongst a lot of deciduous trees and, at the appropriate time of year, is very colourful.

    Life in the National Park

This is a campground in a National Park so you get some idea of what to expect. It costs you $7 to enter the overall park itself, then it costs you $8 per person ($5 for children) at a powered site, $5 at a non-powered site.

You'll be set among wildlife and, if you're an international tourist, you won't come across a better place to see kangaroos. Well, specifically, wallabies. They'll be foraging the grass around Camp Blackman and, elsewhere within the park, they're almost in plague proportions.
You'll also most likely come across some emus and lots of other birds, particularly currawongs, crows and magpies.
The sites are flat and power is available at some but there's no set places, you simply pull up near a power point.
The all new sealed section, just before Wambelong Creek, is more organized.
There's also good toilets and showers and a place to wash your dinner plates.

castlereagh holiday unit: horrible experience !
  • Satisfaction:
  • We had a really bad experience at this place, and were shocked by the hostile behavior of the host. They went out of their way to misbehave with me and my family, and as a parent I would advise other parents against staying here, as you would not want your kids to be exposed to such people.
I have traveled extensively across Australia, and always come back home, refreshed and full of good memories, however, on this occasion, our holiday was completely ruined by these people, and we came back disappointed, even though Coonabarabran is a wonderful place to visit.
