a free campingsite: in Wallabadah

by globetrott

In Wallabadah (south of Tamworth/ NSW) I found my favorite of all the free campingsites that I have used in Australia: Next to the park where you find the monument for the 1st settlers you will find a large area, where camping is free over night and so I stayed there in my motorhome togeather with about 20 other campers.

Toilets and washing-facilities are available there, there is a small river next to the campingsite, some sitting-areas with tables and benches and cooking-facilities like you will find them on many picknick-places in Australia. For children you will also find a playground !

Nelligen Post Office Guesthouse: an early house & a great adaption

by globetrott

In case that you travel from the coast to Canberra, this might be a good chance for you to stay in a house that was built by the early settlers of the 19th century: The Nelligen Post Office that is a Guesthouse nowadays ! I did not stay in this hotel/guesthouse, but I saw it from OUTside and as it was the only place that offered accomodation in Nelligen, I thought it might be helpfull to find some pics and booking-infos here, in case somebody is travelling in that area, east of Canberra.

What I like most is the great architecture and the lovely restoration, the small terraces right in front of the rooms, where you can sit and enjoy the day.
See some more photos, also of the interior, when clicking on the link below !

"wild camping": in a motorhome

by globetrott

In general it is forbidden to sleep in your car OUTside of campingsites, except in some places along the mainroads that have a sign " Rest & revive " . Unfortunately these places are mostly not really "romantic" and some of them are quite spooky as well, BUT I was always lucky and spent my night sometimes even inside of a village on an ordinary parkinglot, without any problems at all !

This "Rest & revive" - place in Stroud is an excellent example for a great place to spend the night in a camper and it is equipped with a public toilet and a place for a picknick.
I parked my car there - it actually had a bed inside as well and spent the night there totally unharmed by anyone and even the mossies gave me a brake.

HW Boutique Motel: Port Macquarie by the Sea

by SmilingTraveller

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by the friendly reception staff who assisted us with parking and anything else we needed to feel at home. The rooms themselves are very clean and tastefully decorated with comfy beds and elegant linen and have both air conditioning and ceiling fans, block out blinds for a good nights sleep & sheer blinds for the day time, TV with Austar, iron & ironing board, mini bar, coffee & tea making facilities and hairdryer.

The motel also has a casual restaurant, a small swimming pool, a laundry and ample parking.

From the motel it's only a short walk into the centre of town or across the road to the beach.

A perfect place to stay!

It's the little touches that really stand out and we loved the Molton Brown of London toiletries in the bathroom and a selection of free postcards & bookmarks in the bedroom.

We had breakfast delivered to our room which was both generous and well presented.

All rooms have glorious views looking out to Town Beach and the entrance to the Hastings River.

Cypress Lakes Resort: Hunter Valley Resort, Spa & Golf

by SmilingTraveller

We spent our time with 2 other couples in a 3 bedroom villa, but there are also 1 and 2 bedroom villas available. In our villa we had 2 king sized beds and 2 single beds (which had been made up as a double as requested). There were 2 bathrooms as well as a downstairs toilet.

The lounge area was cozy and our villa had a fire as well as air-con. We also had a dinning area and fully equiped kitchen (although there is an additional charge for pots/pans etc. - a bit rude we thought).

The villa also had a TV, dryer, ironing board & iron, large balcony with table and chairs and lots of nice goodies in the bathrooms.

Cypress Lakes is centrally located to all the vineyards in the Pokolbin area and we found the villa to be very comfortable and big enough for us to all rattle around in without getting in the way of each other.

The resort is set in a peaceful and scenic setting and the facilities include the Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club, The Golden Door Spa, tennis courts, gym, 2 swimming pools, sauna & spa and bike hire. There is also a bar and a choice of 2 restaurants.

The Crown & Anchor: Beautiful Historic B&B in Eden

by carmilla5

Step back in time to this early 1840s inn. Experience romantic early Australian charm, ocean views, ensuites, open fireplaces and complimentary drinks.

Breakfast is served overlooking the ocean from where you can watch the whales during the October-November season.

The Crown & Anchor is central to Eden and wonderfully quiet. A pleasant walk to restaurants, beaches, and the wharf.

Judy was a superb hostess. She runs a fantastic B&B/Inn in the Crown & Anchor. Its perched above Twofold Bay and she does her utmost to make sure you are at your most comfortable. You can have a continental breakfast in the C&A or go down to the wharf and have a full breakfast, which is included in the price.
Beautiful rooms, warm loungeroom with fire place which is always on the go so you come in and feel so cosy.
The champagne & cheese in the afternoons is a very nice touch!
