STOP AND SEE THE PARAGON MILK BAR..
by DennyP
A walk along Katoomba's main street.. near the top of the hill you will come across the PARAGON CAFE This gem of an establishment will take you back to the fifties with it's original Art Deco Interior... it mainly is a coffee shop / milk bar/ cafe still these days and is just amazing ..The original hand made chocolates are still done here as they have this last fifty years..all I can say is ..stop by have a coffee and sit in one of the little cubicles that were common in their time...what a jewel this place is...every time I visit the Blue Mountains I stop here and always worry next time it will be gone.. A Katoomba icon..
THE SCENIC RAILWAY
by DennyP
Located at The same location as other Scenic rides The SCENIC RAILWAY is a must.Originally known as the "Mountain Devil"and now known as the steepest inclined railway in the world..this little rail trip although short is breathtaking.. Originally this started out as railway (skips)to bring up coal from one of the many mines in the Jamieson Valley.but was then made into an easy ride for weekend travellers and bushwalkers to travel up and down from the valley..Today it is a hugely popular attraction with visitors..
Coalmining began here in 1878 and soon grew to over 40 mines.. leaving behind a legacy of 100 kilometers of tunnels..The last Mine closed in the late 1930's..in the reasonably short walk from The Scenic Railway to the Cableway, for return to the top through some pleasant rainforrest you will pass the Original coal mine and creative sculptures that are outside the mine..
ALL BUSSES STOP HERE.. EXPLORER AND TROLLEYS..
THERE IS ALSO A LARGE FREE CAR PARKING HERE
OPEN EVERYDAY FROM 9.00AM TILL 5.00PM
Katoomba and Echo Point
by engeluna
"The Coolest Place in all of new South Wales"
I only had one short day to get through the Blue Mountains. So I did a tour. It took us to the Olympic site, and on in through Katoomba and to Echo Point. I wish I wish i had had more time. There are so many walks and hikes through that area!
One very neat thing about Echo Point is the poetry carved into the standing stones. It makes a lovely introduction to the view of the 3 Sisters.
