Camping is not allowed on Lord Howe Island and, accordingly, there are no campgrounds (or hostels, for that matter).

It's a long time since my visit and, although I fully believe the island is very much as I last saw it, such details as accommodation have a habit of being updated over time. So I propose to stay strictly neutral on this matter and simply to refer you to the website link below, which lists the options available. It all looks much more salubrious than before! Unfortunately, staying at Lord Howe Island is not inexpensive (well, in comparison to mainland Australia, anyway).
