Broken View Estates, Pokolbin: Lovely cottage in the middle of Wine Country
We stayed here over the Easter holiday weekend for two nights in cottage No. 4. We had a great time. The cottages are located on a dirt road in the middle of the Hunter Wine region. There are five yellow cottages around a little pond that is full of ducks. Behind our cottage, the owner of the property had a little vineyard. Our cottage had a lovely open wood fire. two tvs with satelitte and dvd player (they also have a few dvds that you can watch). Nice kitchen with pots pans, stove, microwave and electric stove. They put eggs, bacon, bread and jams in the fridge. Since it was Easter, they gave us a chocolate Easter bunny, which i thought was a great touch! There is a gas bbq in the back. In the bedroom there is a large spa bath for two persons. The bed and the bed linen are very comfy.
PROs:
good location, close to all the wineries. Restaurants are only a few minutes away by car. Great kitchen-we cooked breakfast every morning and one dinner. Nice spa bath. Loved the wood fire place
Cons; when you turn the hot water on in the bath for the first time there is a bit of a sulfur smell. This went away after a minute or two. When you drive into the property, there is a narrow wooden bridge over a small pond. This can be tricky to drive over at night, since it's narrow and you don't want to scratch your car.
We thought the price was a little expensive, but the price was on average for a nice one bedroom cottage in the hunter valley during the peak season. i would definately stay here again!

Mulla Villa: Classic Aussie farm stay
Although about 20 minutes from the heart of the vineyards this place is located in a very historic village called Wollombi, a long time favourite of weekenders and day trippers.
Unique Quality: Set in around 40 hectares this is the place you should go if you want the classic Aussie verandah, me personally being a fan of such things.
Set on the hillside on the western side of Wollombi this award winning guest house is furnished with period pieces and tastefully decorated.
You wont starve at breakfast with wholesome country style food available in quantity.
They actually get their own eggs daily, they have their own herb garden along with home made jams and marmalade.
Best of all - there's no television!
The local hotel here is one of Australia's classics and sells a brew called Dr. Jurd's Jungle Juice. Don't ask me how it tastes, I'm too afraid to try it!

Lavender Ridge: Local B&Bs
B&B's are something there is no shortage of in the Hunter Valley, especially around the vineyards.
This particular one is located in Milbrodale Road at Broke.
Unique Quality: When John and Wendy Hayes bought this 40 hectare property they wanted to build something that looked over 100 years old. I have to say that it doesn't look even a week old! What his intention was however, aside from my interpretation, was to build a lovely sandstone residence and accommodation. In this he has admirably succeeded.
Milbrodale Road carries on from the main Broke Road just after the latter comes to a T-intersection. Milbrodale has over 20 wineries and a number of B&B's, all set beneath Broken Back Range.
Here you get a complimentary breakfast hamper and bottle of wine and all linen is provided.
If you get lucky you may get inside the house and have a look at the extraordinary clock, dating from the 19th cenury and imported from England. The workings are housed behind an open barricade that is itself a work of art, some of it coming from Germany.

Sleep in a vineyard: Hear the rustle?
Most of this type of accommodation is self catering but there are those that offer more. Because there is so much of it there isn't enough space to detail them all here.
Unique Quality: Imagine the round-the-table conversation where you can boast that you slept in a vineyard. Well, it's all possible at Pokolbin. This particular shot is taken at the intersection of Oakey Creek and Marrowbone Roads but there is a wealth of such accommodation throughout the Hunter Region vineyards.
At this particular one, Kelman Vineyards, you can own the house and a little bit of the vineyard. Your own private vintage - gotta be happy with that!

Belford Country Cabins
I can't believe I remembered the name of this place. We stayed here a long time ago when hubby and I went on our balloon holiday. If you like the bush, you'll love this place and the price is very reasonable too. I would recommend this place if you are on a bit of a budget or have a few people that want to share accommodation. I found the site on the web as well if you want to check it out.
